Celebrating Maria Montessori
August 31, 1870 – Today marks 156 years since her birth
Long before "child-led learning" was a buzzword, Maria Montessori was already proving it. She believed every child carries within them the power to develop themselves — that our job as adults isn't to fill children with knowledge, but to prepare the world so they can discover it.
🧠 The first woman in Italy to become a physician
🏫 Founder of a method now used in over 20,000 schools worldwide
🌍 A lifelong advocate for peace, independence, and the dignity of every child
Her famous words still guide classrooms and homes today:
"Follow the child."
However you learned, however you're raising the next generation — a little bit of Montessori's spirit is probably already there.

Montessori called them "sensitive periods" — windows of intense sensitivity where a child's mind is naturally drawn to master a specific skill.
They're not permanent. They open, they do their work, and they close.
Our job isn't to create these windows — it's to notice them, and prepare an environment that meets the child right where they are.
