EARTH DAY 2014 - 22 APRIL 2014. DEAR FILM MAKERS AND COMMUNICATORS, MAKE FILMS ON MAKING OUR ROADWAYS AND RAILWAYS CLEAN AND GREEN
India can be called as clean when its railways and roadways are clean. This is possible only when the Indian Railways(IR) and National Highways Authority of India(NHAI) which transport people and freight take care of the waste littered by the passengers/users/customers/vendors/employees of NHAI and IR.
Both of them, in required, can impose a special litter tax along with their passenger ticket of toll gate collections. Other wise we will be left with such horrendous tracks and roads which make it impossible for us travel safely in clean environment.
Make Indian Railways responsible for cleaning in and around the tracks being one of the world's largest railway networks comprising 115,000 km of track over a route of 65,000 km. It has 7,500 stations and is transporting over 3 crore passengers daily i.e., over 1000 crores annually and transporting 30 lakhs tonnes of freight daily. It runs 10,000 trains every day and has 1.3 million employees.
All across these tracks we can find tonnes of unmanaged litter.
NHAI is responsible for the development, maintenance, management and operation of National Highways, totaling over 76,818 km. Indian roadways are 42,45,429 kilometres length. Out of which National Highways (Already 4/6 laned)16,000 km, Highways which are being 4 or 6 laned (India) 25,000 km, State Highways 1,54,522 km, Major and other district roads 2,577,396 km, Rural & other roads 1,433,577 km.
All across these tracks we can find organised and unorganised dumping of unmanged litter and garbage.
THIS WASTE IS DESTROYING OUR FLORA AND FAUNA IN THE PRISTINE FORESTS AND WATER BODIES ACROSS INDIA.
THIS WASTE IS DESTROYING THE PUBLIC HEALTH IN THIS COUNTRY.
