The story follows Vasudev Ghanta, a young filmmaker in modern-day Hyderabad who quits his IT job to pursue cinema. To make his debut short film, he casts a psychology student named Keerthi. During the shoot, Vasu experiences strange episodes of temporary memory loss and personality shifts, particularly after getting into a fight where he suffers a head injury.
Despite these hitches, his short film becomes a massive hit, leading to a blockbuster feature film.
However, at the peak of his success, Vasu is arrested on charges of plagiarism. A publishing house from Kolkata claims that his film’s story is a frame-by-frame copy of works written by a famous Bengali author from the 1970s named Shyam Singha Roy.

To prove his innocence and understand why he wrote a story he never actually read, Vasu undergoes clinical hypnosis with the help of Keerthi’s professor. Under hypnosis, he regresses into his past life as Shyam Singha Roy. In the 1970s, Shyam was a fierce, high-caste revolutionary writer in West Bengal who fought against social evils like untouchability and the Devadasi system. During a Navratri festival, he falls in love with Maitreyi, a Devadasi whom he calls Rosie. Shyam challenges the oppressive temple authorities, eventually rescuing Rosie and escaping to Kolkata.
There, they build a life together, and Shyam becomes a legendary literary figure, using his pen to advocate for women’s rights and social reform.
The tragedy of the past is revealed when it’s shown that Shyam was betrayed and murdered by his own cousins, who coveted his property and despised his radical ideologies. In the present, the court case reaches a climax as legal teams argue over the possibility of reincarnation. Vasu travels to Kolkata to find the remnants of his past life and discovers that an elderly Rosie is still alive, having spent decades waiting for him.
