Day 1 of the MANAGE Agricultural Extension “Evening4Learning” Webinar Series Phase 2 explored "Digital Tools & Innovations for Agricultural Extension" with insights from experts.

Dr. Namita Singh, Director - Director-Strategy, Knowledge & MEL, Digital Green urged purposeful tech use for extension workers, while Mr. Udaya Bhanu Prakash Vaddi, Program Advisor, Environmental Défense Fund highlighted the power of ICT and synergy in reaching the unreached.

The 5-day MANAGE program on “Innovations in Agricultural Extension Management” for the extension functionaries of the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Empowerment, Govt. of Odisha concluded on 20.10.2023.

The program entailed discussions with experts on various agricultural innovations that are taking place in the realm of agricultural extension. But that's not all – the participants also embarked on exciting field trips! From startups to ICAR-IIMR and a visit to the Centre of Sustainable Agriculture in Hyderabad, they explored innovative extension approaches in action.

The participants also discussed the vagaries of agriculture in Odisha and came up with innovative solutions during group activities. The training program also focused on the development of communication skills among the extension functionaries for better team building and extension.

Today marked the commencement of our 5-day program "Innovations in Agricultural Extension Management", running from October 16th to 20th, 2023, is tailored for the Extension Functionaries of the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Empowerment, Government of Odisha by the National Institute of Agricultural Extension Management.

Day 1 Highlights
Dr. Saravanan Raj, Director (Agricultural Extension) at MANAGE, kicked off the program with an inspiring session emphasizing the pivotal role of innovations in agricultural extension. He stressed that traditional methods of technology transfer are a thing of the past. Today, we must co-innovate and co-create, addressing issues across the entire agricultural value chain.

In the second session, we had the privilege of learning from Dr. M. N. Reddy, Former Director (Agricultural Extension). He reminded us that extension is not merely about transferring technology or sharing statistics; it's about handholding our farmers, leading them to increased income and profit.

Dr. Veenita Kumari's session shed light on the critical issue of the Gender Gap in Agriculture and the importance of nutrition sensitivity in our work.

The goal of the training program is to equip Extension Functionaries with the knowledge and tools they need to implement innovative and effective agricultural extension practices. This program aims to enhance their skills, promote modern agricultural techniques, and ultimately contribute to the empowerment and success of farmers in Odisha.

Instead, they stressed the importance of delving into new research domains that can bring about transformative change in agricultural extension.
