The development of sensor technology and the recent generation of heterogeneous Internet-of-Things (IoT) data has changed the actual perception of the round world, which is becoming a multi-sensing environment where intelligent systems, unmanned vehicles, and any smart sensing device work to accomplish requests for monitoring, communication, and coordination tasks. Row data streams are analyzed and processed to be translated into decision-support information, thanks to methodologic and technological applications of research domains such as Artificial Intelligence technologies, Pattern Recognition, Computer Vision, etc.
Besides these domains that are crucial for data processing, a machine-compliant interpretation that provides a high-level description of the data in the context where they are captured is crucial. The semantic description of row data can foster the understanding of what process occurs and in which context is placed, in a way similar to human understanding.
In the monitoring and surveillance domains, data from unmanned vehicles must be processed to recognize not just targets appearing in a scene, but have complete awareness about scenes the targets are involved in, by describing events, actions, situations. Semantic Web technologies provide seamless support to the high-level understanding of these scenes. A systematic ontology modeling enriches the video content analysis semantically, by generating a comprehensive high-level scene description, through semantic inference and querying. Targets captured by tracking algorithms are described semantically, through the event-driven target interactions (for local activity comprehension), to reach a gradual high-level abstraction that enables a concise and complete scenario description.
The ontology schema is from an integration of new and existing ontologies and provides some design pattern guidelines to get a high-level description of a whole scenario. You can watch our webinars on our youtube channel https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC4F3AEhS7QQUGntxUUu4xig
