He was born in Bihar into a caste that was considered as the ''untouchables''. After completing his graduation in science, his social activism brought him to the notice of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose. He then became a parliamentarian from 1936 and served until 1986. This was a record of 50 uninterrupted years of service.

National Maritime Day in India is celebrated on April 5th every year to mark the maiden voyage of the SS Loyalty from Mumbai to London in 1919. Shri Shyamji Krishna Varma was a notable Indian freedom fighter and revolutionary who played a key role in the Indian independence movement. Shyamji Krishna Varma was a brilliant scholar and a lawyer by profession. He studied law in England and was called to the Bar at the Inner Temple in London. Shyamji Krishna Varma's contribution to the Indian freedom struggle was immense, and he is remembered as one of the great Indian patriots of the pre-independence era. He passed away on 30th March 1930 in Geneva, Switzerland, at the age of 72.

Dr Ram Manohar Lohia was an Indian politician, social reformer, and thinker who played a significant role in India's freedom struggle. He was born on March 23, 1910, in Akbarpur, Uttar Pradesh, and died on October 12, 1967, in Delhi, India.
