When a child says, “I don’t want to read,” we don’t always bring out a book. 😄

Sometimes we feed words to a hungry frog.

Sometimes we swat them.

And sometimes we park cars on them.

It looks like play, but the child is still reading, decoding, scanning, listening and practising the same patterns again and again.

When reading has felt difficult for a long time, even looking at a page can make a child want to escape. So we make the first step feel smaller.

One word. One action. One quick win.

We’re not taking the reading away. We’re just changing the way the child enters it.

Also, most of the learning aids you see in this reel come from our in-house learning aids manufacturing unit, Learning Essentials Learning Essentials | Educational Aids .

Many of our ideas begin with a specific child who comes to Squarepegs and a very specific need we are trying to meet. We design and custom-make the aid, try it in our sessions and refine it based on how the children respond.

And when something works beautifully, we make it available for other parents, teachers and therapists to use too. So an idea created for one of our little learners eventually gets shared with children around the world. 🩵

The child sees a game.

We see some very useful reading practice.

Which one would your child choose: feed, swat or park?

Sensory issues can look like “behaviour” from the outside.

Covering the ears. Refusing certain clothes. Avoiding messy play. Constantly moving. Chewing things. Running away. Melting down.

But inside, the child’s nervous system may be saying:

“This is too much for me.”

Or…

“My body needs more input to feel organised.”

Every brain receives information from sound, light, movement, touch, taste and the body itself. But not every brain processes that information in the same way.

A sound that barely registers for one child may feel enormous to another. One child may avoid movement, while another may jump, spin and crash because their body is seeking more of it.

They are not necessarily being difficult, dramatic or disobedient.

Their body may simply be trying to cope.

Before asking, “How do we stop this behaviour?” let’s pause and ask:

“What might this child’s nervous system be communicating—and what could help them feel safe?”

Because when we understand the sensory need, the behaviour begins to make sense. 💛

Save this post and share it with a parent or teacher who may need this reminder.

The children are not at the centre on Saturday mornings.

But they are still the reason we are there.

Every Saturday, our therapists sit together with session notes, goals, materials and questions. We talk about what each child is doing independently, where they still need support, which approaches are helping—and where we may need to change our own teaching.

Sometimes, one of us demonstrates exactly how an activity was presented. Sometimes, another therapist notices something we have missed. Sometimes, the most important outcome of the meeting is deciding not to continue doing something simply because it has always been done that way.

These meetings are also how we make sure that a child’s progress does not live only inside one therapist’s head. If someone else ever needs to step in, they should understand the child’s goals, the work completed so far and what needs to happen next.

Parents may never see these Saturday conversations.

But they are present in every carefully chosen activity, every adjusted goal and every prompt we gradually remove.

This is the work behind the sessions at Squarepegs.

If you are looking for individualised Early Intervention or Educational Therapy for your child, message us with their age, grade and the areas you are concerned about.

A child answers correctly during the lesson.

The next morning, you ask the same question—and they look completely blank.

It is easy to assume that they were not paying attention, did not practise enough or have forgotten everything they learnt.

But learning something and being able to retrieve it whenever it is needed are not always the same thing.

The child may recognise the answer when they see it but struggle to produce it independently.

They may remember after you give them the first sound, show them a picture or remind them of the first step.

They may know the concept when working with objects but become confused when it appears on paper.

They may answer comfortably when given time but freeze when expected to respond quickly.

Retrieval can also become harder when the child is tired, anxious, distracted or trying to manage several pieces of information at once.

So when I see inconsistency, I do not look only at whether the child got the answer right or wrong.

I look at what helped them access it.

Did they need more time?

A visual cue?

The first sound?

A concrete example?

A shorter instruction?

A familiar format?

Those small details tell us much more about where the difficulty may lie—and what kind of support may actually help.

Reaching out for support can feel like a big step—especially when you are not quite sure how to explain what has been worrying you.

You may not have a diagnosis. You may not know which program your child needs. You may not even know whether what you are noticing is something to be concerned about.

That is completely okay.

The first parent consultation is simply where we begin.

It gives us time to listen to what you have been noticing, understand your child’s history, look through any reports or work samples you may have and ask the questions that will help us see the larger picture.

You do not have to arrive with the right words or all the answers.

After our conversation, we spend time observing and assessing your child before recommending what kind of support may be appropriate. We do not decide this based only on a diagnosis, age or grade.

Sometimes Early Intervention may be the right fit. Sometimes the child may need Educational Therapy, a different learning environment or another professional altogether.

The purpose of the process is not to place every child into a Squarepegs program.

It is to understand what your child needs—and whether I am the right person to provide it.

The initial parent consultation lasts approximately 45-60 minutes. The fee is ₹3,500 and includes the child’s subsequent observation and assessment.

To enquire, send us your child’s age, grade and a brief note about what you have been noticing.

One of the first questions parents ask me is, “What kind of children do you work with?”

The honest answer is that children come to me for many different reasons.

Sometimes it is a young child who is finding communication, play or participation difficult.

Sometimes it is a school-going child who reads, writes or completes mathematics with far more effort than expected.

Sometimes the child understands beautifully in conversation but cannot show the same understanding on paper.

And sometimes a parent simply knows that the current way of learning is not working for their child anymore.

You do not need to arrive with a diagnosis. You do not need to know which program to ask for. You do not even need to have all the right words to explain what is happening.

We begin with a conversation.

I listen to what you have been noticing, understand the child’s history and then spend time getting to know the child—their strengths, their current skills and the places where learning or participation begins to become difficult.

From there, we decide whether Squarepegs is the right fit and what kind of support may make sense.

If you have been wondering whether your child may benefit from support, message me with their age, grade and a little about what you have been noticing.

“But you knew this yesterday.”

We hear this often. And we understand the frustration behind it, especially when a child answered confidently yesterday and looks completely blank today.

But inconsistency does not always mean the learning has disappeared.

Sometimes the child recognises the answer but cannot recall it independently. Sometimes they can manage the skill on its own, but lose track when reading, writing, remembering instructions and working quickly are all expected at once. Sometimes the information is there, but the child needs more time or one small cue to find it.

At Squarepegs, we treat these inconsistencies as clues.

What changes when the child is given more time?
What kind of prompt helps?
Can they explain the answer but not write it?
Can they do one question but not an entire page?
Does the skill disappear when the wording or setting changes?

The answers help us understand where the difficulty may lie and what support the child actually needs.

Because the question is not simply, “Why have they forgotten again?”

It is, “What is making it difficult for them to access what they know?”

Save this for the next time yesterday’s learning seems to have vanished.

Speech milestones are often misunderstood as targets.
In reality, they’re ranges — and development rarely moves in a straight line.

This post outlines speech development from birth to 5 years, including early sound play, word emergence, sentence building, and clarity.

Speech is more than talking — it also includes listening, understanding, intent, and interaction.

Use this as a reference, not a measuring stick.

Trust your observations.
Progress matters more than perfection.

Save. Share. And reach out if you need clarity 🤍
