Interesting facts of Rila monestary which holds more than 1000 years of history

Rila monastery is named after its founder who lived around (876 - 946 AD) in a cave not far from current monastery and his name is Ivan Rilski who was a christian mystic Saint. construction of the monastery was started during 13th - 14th century.

From 1961 , Rila monastery was declared as museum because religious activities were bannned in the monastery under the communist rule.But later in 1983 it came under UNESCO protection and religious state was restored from 1991.

Still today , the oldest building that is surviving inside rila monastery is a tower called Herlyo’s tower and the most famous frescoes inside this monastery was created by the talented bulgarian artists of that times.It left untouched till now since from its establishment.

Shen kua or Shen kuo was a chinese all-round scholar and statesman of the song dynasty(960-1279) and oustanding engineer who wrote wide variety of topics on litertaure , physics, chemisty, astronomy , geology , medical science, calendars and meteorology.He was excellent in military strategies and used to be well known as knowledgeable in ancient china who made milestone contributions to art and literature.

Shen Kuo mastered in many complex problems of geometry and trigonometry and he was the first person to apply geometrical and quantitative attributes to the camera obscure who first tested with the pinhole camera and the burning mirror.Later his mathematical work contributed mostly in the field of astronomy.

Historical Church Built 1700 years back - St. Albans Cathedral

St. Albans Cathedral church was began in the year 1077 and was completed during the year 1089. Roman bricks from the abandoned city of Verulamium has been used in the construction where outstanding 13th and 14th century wall paintings can been seen on the longest nave i.e ( 85 meters long) in the England. At present , Bell tower which was constructed in 11th century is the only remain of its period.

He was a dictator , statesman and muslim Arab Andalusi military leader.He was born to Yemeni Arab origin on the outskirts of Torrox in Alqueria around 939. Al Mansur was his nickname but the actual name was Abu Amir Muhammad Ibn Adbullah Ibn Abi Amir al-Ma’afiri often considered as Almanzor.Al Mansur belongs to al-Ma’afir tribe where some of the family served as Qadis and Jurists and later even after his family position improved significantly they remained as modest middle class family.

Why Gol Gumbaz is known as an architectural wonder ?

Mohammad Adil Shah who ruled Bijapur during 17th century. Right after he crowned as king, He decided to build himself a mausoleum in the year 1626 AD that has to larger and grandeur than father tomb called Ibrahim Rauza, But because of his death in the year 1656 AD, structure of mausoleum not fully executed as planned. Later his mortal remains including his two wives Aroos Bibi , Taj Jahan Begum, Mistress Rambha and his grandson and daughter were buried in the same place.

It is one of the most well known mausoleums in India. Gol Gumbaz is exactly located in Bijapur , Karnataka state of India. It is also known as Gol Ghumat which means circular dome and considered as most dominating muslim monuments in entire south india because of its unique acoustic features and Splendid archtitecture details featured from 17th century.

Gol Gumbaz mausoleum is one of the worlds largest single chamber spaces one has to visit. This has 4 seven - storey high dome capped towers adorning its four sides which covers an area of 18000 sq.ft where it hs no pillars or towers to support its huge dome which is held up from the inside by eight interesting arches. Gol Gumbaz mausoleum was built with dark grey basalt stone and its facade is decorated with plaster.

Gol Gumbaz has whispering gallery on 8th storey which can accessed by winding staircases in the four towers, circles the dome and hangs out at around 3.3 meters. This has been designed in such a way that one can hear the amazing echo sound for over eleven times across a distance of 37 meters within the vast dome which was commendable civil engineering during those times.

On the whole , Gol Gumbaz is must visit place if you are in Karnataka , India as one can get Bijapur panoramic views from the towers and mesmerizing deccan Indo - islamic archiecture design which got popularity across the borders right from its construction time. Gol Gumbaz is referred as Black Taj Mahal or TajMahal of South India.
