Take a look at our newest medicine laureate Katalin Karikó with her Nobel Prize medal. Karikó is not the only person in the family to own a gold medal as her daughter Susan Francia is a two-time Olympic gold medalist in rowing. Our medicine laureate was therefore often referred to as the rowing mom.

Karikó shared the prize with Drew Weissman for discoveries concerning nucleoside base modifications that enabled the development of effective mRNA vaccines against COVID-19.
