Children's Day was celebrated a bit early this year with Fiesta'23 and what a day it was!!

As in previous carnivals organized by JDSH, this year too, we were blessed to have thirty Rainbow children from five different Loreto campuses as our special guests. They inaugurated the Fiesta and even performed a prayer-dance which had us all enthralled. We, on our part, did our best to keep them entertained and in high spirits. We were very happy to gift them all hampers with stuff we knew little girls would like and it did bring a smile to their faces.

There were games galore and prizes-aplenty. Can the can, Pin a tail on the donkey, Hoopla, Darts, Hit the wicket and plenty more. There was also food to please every palate. Petuki Bangali catered to the rich taste of Bengal while there was a Small China Town to suite the crave for Chinese'. Puri Sabji and the ever popular momos were available as were chaats, snacks, ice cream and various desserts to ensure there were no hungry visitors. And all this was made more lively with the latest hits being belted out as requests and dedications.

The day progressed and as it did, so did the number of our visitors and guests who added colour and sparkle with their trendy attire in both ethnic and westernwear; adding fizz to an already amazing day.

All good things must come to an end and sadly, our carnival did too; but not without the draw for fifty one attractive prizes for the JDSH Fiesta'23 Raffle. There were fifty one lucky winners representing guests, students and staff. When it all ended , there was just ONE happy soul. And none could blame him. He gave a sigh of relief and headed back home...longing to rest as he was sore. If you're still wondering who...it was the donkey. (Too many times he had been pinned!!)

We firmly believe in this and encourage our younger scientists to keep trying and learning. We offer quality science shows and science programs that are aligned with the Curriculum, and blend enticing class demonstrations with small-group experiments to facilitate genuine learning.

Our Annual Science Exhibition is dedicated to our younger scientists who receive a unique academic experience designed to challenge their abilities beyond the classroom, a greater understanding of where their strengths and areas of improvement lie, and recognition and encouragement of academic success.
Scientifically speaking, todays Science Exhibition was a look, listen and learn event. Our Science Teachers along with our students put up an exhibition par excellence.We got to watch our children perform, demonstrate and leave us a lot wiser at the end of the day. It was a memorable day for all.

I would always encourage my dear children in the words of Carl Sagan, " Somewhere something incredible is waiting to be known" keep exploring !!

RAKSHA BANDHAN

Sibling love, brotherhood, friendship – all this and more is celebrated in the Indian festival aptly named Raksha Bandhan.

Our school, keeping the above in mind, held a rakhi-making competition. Sixty five enthusiastic participants across all ages, classes and religions eagerly vied to be the winner.

Each brought along his/her rakhi-making material consisting of everything from ribbons, glue and stickers to sophisticated patterns and imitation gem stones.

The result was a wide array of beautiful rakhis, all in vibrant colours and hand-crafted with loads of love and care. The children enjoyed the competition and it also helped spread the true meaning of the festival.

Happy Raksha Bandhan to one and all, from JDS, Howrah. May our bonds and bands of friendship be beautiful, bright and blessed.

Football, Fanatics and Fun !!

Julien Day School, Howrah hosted its Jr. Boys and Girls Football teams from three other branches in Kolkata, Ganganagar and Kalyani respectively, for a three-day fun filled Inter Branch Football Tournament for girls and Jr. Boys.

The teams had a field day as arrangements had been made to please even the insatiable. Colourful shamianas were set up with fans installed (to ease the monsoon humidity). We had a nurse on stand-by and she had in her armourery gallons of glucose ready to re-energize players being depleted of it while scampering after the elusive ball. Sumptuous meals were provided on all three days by caterers who cooked fresh food on our premises.

The icing on the cake were our girls! They didn’t just play football but shone at it with their sincerity and skill leaving even the referees from the West Bengal State Referees Association, flabbergasted. (Our months of training paid off with each thrilling victory turning us, JDS, Howrah Girls team, into a formidable one.)

The Jr. Boys Championship was won by JDS, Kalyani but our super-soccer girls from Howrah won the girls from Howrah won the girls Championship and nearly every heart as well!!

Kudos to all involved in the tournament/ it is going to be tough to outdo this one in standard, skill and service

The CISCE organized the Girls Throwball Tournament for girls in the Under-14, Under-17 and Under-19 Categories.

We, at JDS Howrah were the host school. It was a three-day event and was held from 3 rd July to 5th July 2023.

Our school hosted the event with all the pomp and show we could muster. There was a fusion dance aptly named “Recharged” to open the tournament.

A total of 30 teams participated with three of them staying on our campus itself. Very able staff took care of every tiny detail and so the event progressed like clockwork and our guests were very pleased with the arrangements made.

The competition was tough but restricted to the court and outside it, new friendships and acquaintances were created. The icing on the cake was that players, coaches, teachers and the like rubbed shoulders each meal time and a lot of fun and laughter occurred.

The Under 14 final was played between Good Shepherd School and Sri Sri Academy. The victors were the girls from Good Shepherd School.

The Under 17 final was played between Good Shepherd School and Modern High School for Girls. Good Shepherd School were victorious once again.

The Under 19 final was played between Loreto House and Modern High School for Girls. It turned out to be a very exciting match with a nail biting finish. The girls from Loreto House eked out a narrow victory over the girls from Modern High School.

All good things must come to an end and so this event too did so, but its left behind many, many happy memories and plenty to cheer about.

SOCIAL OUTREACH PROGRAMME
On the 27th of June 2023, members of our school Management, teaching and student faculty, visited Shanti Nivas Old Age Home in Behala.
This was a very enriching experience for us as we got an opportunity to spend time with the old folks, interact with them, entertain them with song and dance and absorb and appreciate their experiences and wisdom.
We were both motivated and inspired by the inmates who very kindly prepared refreshments for us and lived happily together. Our children realized how blessed they were and how important it is to be a blessing to others whenever we can.
Reaching out often needs reaching in and that is what we happily did in order to bring a little happiness and a smile on the faces of each of the inmates of Shanti Nivas. May God bless and guide us so that we as an institution, continue to grow and in doing so we may motivate and inspire others to offer succor to those who need it most and to appreciate the joy and pleasure of giving unconditionally.
