Congratulations to our Directress Shalini G Patnam on receiving independent directorship from the Indian Montessori Centre, recognising her work in the footsteps of Dr. Maria Montessori, in the service of the child.
This recognition to our Directress wouldn't have been possible at all without the support of an awesome team at Vismaya, both past and present! 💕
Here's Adhvika writing words with an orthographic complication—sh—which is a difficult spelling for the children.
She's writing them by looking at the picture cards in the envelopes, stating that word, then analysing the sounds in that word and writing the symbols (letters) for those sounds in the word in cursive.
Many people have come to us with doubts about the ability of the children in a Montessori to write.
This is probably due to a misconception arising out of the fact that the children in a Montessori House of Children do not by-heart the spellings. Rather the children analyse the sounds and then write. Also, children start to write after about they are 4.5 years old, but they know the spellings even before then. Until they start writing, they form words and sentences with the Moveable Alphabet material.
But once they start writing, there's no stopping them! 🤩

Pongal, Bihu, Lohri, Makar Sankranthi ... this harvest festival celebrated variously across the country, to observe the change of seasons and thank the nature, especially the sun that provides energy to all living beings on earth, was a very special occasion this year for our little ones, and the not so little anymore ones! 😍

Don't you think all these children, of mixed age groups, are in that state of flow as they immerse themselves in various activities that help them learn mathematics?
No fear, no coercion, no tantrums, no forcing ... only focusing, only learning, only enjoying.
Be it trinomial cube for the dreaded formula for (a+b)³ ... binomial square for (a+b)² ... both given as puzzles ... Or adding numbers in thousands, with materials first, then pencil and paper as they grow older, these children below 6 years are doing it all!

Mostly it is all about "allowing" the child rather than "teaching" or, worse, "disciplining" the child.
There's an innate need in the child to have order. Observe, recognise and encourage it.
