Jagriti started in 2002, and has reached more than 2600 parents and teachers who are genuinely interested in opening up themselves to the world of possibilities – for children!
The 60th batch would start on 19th Jan 2024 with 10 sessions conducted on zoom twice a week (Tue & Fri), evening (7pm to 9pm IST) – so that we can accommodate working as well as non-working parents/teachers.
JAGRITI - an online UnLearning UnParenting program for parents and teachers - giving you fresh perspectives into your child and their learning, growing journey.
While what you know and have been doing as a parent is correct, there are atleast 50 more ways of seeing the same thing. When we open up our windows, we get to see new vistas. Automatically, these new perspectives lead us to respond to and work with our child in different and perhaps much more effective ways. The child, in the end, is a huge beneficiary. That we start enjoying our working with the child is a nice side benefit

This is not your regular quiz – here for each question / situation you need to give two answers!!
· One that you normally do (or would have done) – this helps you to become aware of your current thinking (and beliefs). If what you do spans many responses – choose many.
· Second, choose a response that looks interesting, different – something that you would like to explore, experiment and understand more. Your second response could be same as your first.
Note: We have used either gender randomly – all situations are applicable to both gender children and to both parents.

"9) What you think is your role / objective as a parent?
It funny, that when we ask this question to most parents - the most common answer is, “We haven’t thought about it”. Well we go about doing parenting for about say 20 years with just a vague sense of why and what and how. Isn't today a good time to put some clarity into this job. Then see how many of our actions and interactions align with that vision. And also is that the vision the child needs and wants and which will give him or her the life he or she deserves."

"8) You want to teach the child the right values. You are also not sure what the child is learning from his friends / media.
Is it required to preach values? Wait, can we really teach values? In many cases we only profess one thing and then do something else. Also realise that child's values anyway change as he or she grows up - since a child continuously learns from all kinds of experiences and exposures. So instead of controlling the learning, can I work on the ability to learn, rather discern."

"7) Your child is very angry / upset with a friend of hers and she is not talking to anybody and instead fighting with her friend.
We normally tend to see child’s emotions and social behaviour through our lens of right and wrong. But two things are perhaps far more important. One - the child’s need to be understood (Isn’t this a universal need). Two, each such situation is an important step in child learning about emotions, about relationships and about self - something which no educational curriculum covers, and hence our sensitivity and understanding is so very important.

"5) Your child finds it difficult to do homework or has no interest in doing it. When questioned she expresses, “I am not good at Writing / Maths etc”
This situation highlights how we typically operate from the belief that the child is not capable. Not capable to understand the importance of something, not able to learn or do something by herself and so on. While we intuitively know that all of us are different, have different interests and strengths - we fail to recognise this just because of the external measures of success we have put on ourselves. But when we see this from internal motivation window - then we are with the child, not with the task"

Self Esteem
"How do we help the child to understand himself or herself; Is this the key to happiness? Can i get each child to hug herself and say 'I love me'? Can i help the child start the journey of self awareness and truly understanding oneself?"
Some people have told us that every parent should do Jagriti. Well, we're not so sure of that, but we believe that Jagriti will value add to parents who're
> wanting to deeply understand their children and his or her learning and development
> constantly working on a relationship that would enable the child to blossom into the unique human that he or she is
> not worried about child's future, rather focussed on the joy all can have in the years together

"Jagriti was like an eye opener for me. A lot of the things that get talked about in Jagriti are everyday simple stuff for which I had learnt the complicated way of dealing with it. I had my own beliefs, fears, expectations both from myself and the kids and everyone around. This made it complicated to handle everyday happenings. Jagriti gave me different perspectives to look at those same situations, which open a whole different world for me. Also I could see how my way of automatic thinking was making life difficult due to my own beliefs about how kids should be... Jagriti, helped me question my beliefs in turn helping me to think beyond my automatic thinking, helping me to make connecting with my kids the priority rather than my beliefs about them. Jagriti also helped me to question many concepts that I hadn't even thought that I could question...." Says Jagriti Participant

"Parenting is always about putting the pieces together...never a perfect science, but trial, error, progress, recalibration & restarts....Jagriti added some new pieces to the puzzle, answered many questions and threw up even more new questions....parenting is after all a journey, never a destination, and Jagriti was a major pit stop on the route." "Jagriti is a reminder that all our work starts with ourself, and only then permeates down to our children - by when we'll realise they didn't need our help anyway. We may come to Jagriti with our children as our motivation and puzzles but leave knowing that all our work begins with ourselves. And that is an empowering gift to receive for a family" Says Meghana, Jagriti Participant

"Jagriti- unparenting sessions were simply amazing. I got grilled, drilled, and thrilled. I realized that as parents we all are half-baked and there is no perfect recipe for being an ideal parent. Instead it helped me embrace my imperfections and just enjoy the journey with my child, not as a guide or preacher, but as a co-passengers" Says Jagriti Participant
