Be as you have been living

ಇರಬೇಕು ಇರುವಂತೆ
Be as you have been living/

Let me be… just as I am,

ತೊರೆದು ಸಾವಿರ ಚಿಂತೆ
Shedding away all worries/

Leaving behind a thousand worries,

ಮಳೆಸುರಿಸಿ ಹಗುರಾದ ಮುಗಿಲಿನಂತೆ..
Become free like a cloud after pouring rain from the sky/

ತನ್ನೊಡಲ ತಾರೆಗಳ ಗುಡಿಸಿ ರಾಶಿಯ ಮಾಡಿ
Sweeping the glowing stars within her bosom gathering them in a heap

ಬೆಳಕಿನುಂಡೆಯ ಬಾನಿಗುರುಳು ಬಿಟ್ಟು

Rolling bright meteorsin the sky

ಹೇಗೆ ಮರೆಯಾಗುವುದೊ ನಿರ್ಧನಿಕ ನಟ್ಟಿರುಳು

Like the penniless evening vanishes to darkness

ಹಾಗೆ ಬಾಳಿಸು ಗುರುವೆ ಕರುಣೆಯಿಟ್ಟೂ
Make me live thus, O Guru, with your kindness

ತಾನು ಬಿಸಿಲಲಿ ನಿಂತು ತನ್ನ ಬಳಿ ಬರುವವಗೆ Standing thyself in the scorching sun herself,

ತಣ್ಣಗಿನ ಆಸರೆಯ ನೆರಳ ಕೊಟ್ಟೂ
To provide cool shady to all who come below her

ಹೇಗೆ ಗೆಲುವಾಗುವುದೋ ಹಸಿರೆಲೆಯ ಹೊಂಗೆ ಮರ
Like a lush pongan tree adorned wins and blossom green

ಹಾಗೆ ಬಾಳಿಸು ಗುರುವೆ ಪ್ರೀತಿಯಿಟ್ಟೂ
Let me live, O Guru, with your love...2

ತಾನು ಕೆಸರಲಿ ಕುಸಿಯುತ್ತಿದ್ದರೂ
Standing and drowning in slush

ತಾವರೆಯು ಮರಿದುಂಬಿಗಳ ಪೊರೆವ ತೊಟ್ಟಿಲಾಗಿ
The lotus still becomes a cradle for buzzing bees (brood),

ಹೇಗೆ ತಾಯ್ತನವನ್ನು ಪ್ರೀತಿಯಲಿ ಮೆರೆಯುವುದೋ
Like how a motherhood is preseved in love

ಹಾಗೆ ಬಾಳಿಸು ಗುರುವೆ ಕರುಣೆಯಿಟ್ಟೂ
Let me live like that, O Guru, with your compassion of kindness.

ದಾರಿಯುದ್ದಕೂ ಪೈರು ನಗುವಂತೆ ನೀರುಣಿಸಿ
Watering the crops along the path so they smile, quenching their thirst...

ಹಾಲು ತೆನೆಯಲಿ ಅಮೃತ ತುಂಬಿ ನದಿಯು
Like the river that flows, full of milk like nectar,

ಹೇಗೆ ದೂರದ ನೀಲಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಕೊನೆಗೊಳ್ಳುವುದೋ

How it disappears into the far distant blue (ocean),

ಹಾಗೆ ಕೊನೆಗಾಣಿಸು ಕೃಪೆಯನಿಟ್ಟೂ
Let me end like that, with your mercy....

ಇರಬೇಕು ಇರುವಂತೆ
Be as you have been living/
Let me be just as I am,
