🌱 Understanding Adolescence: A Journey Through Change 🌱
Our school recently hosted an insightful and thought-provoking session on Adolescence and Its Challenges By our Renowned Clinical Psychologist Dr Anil Pannikker, addressing the complex phase that every teenager navigates. The session was conducted in two different batches of students. Dr Anil Pannikker addressed the boys and the girls were taken care of by Dr Taj Manchanda Pannikker (psychoanalyst and psychotherapist). The session shed light on the physical changes such as growth spurts, hormonal fluctuations, and the development of secondary sexual characteristics — all of which often lead to body image issues and self-consciousness, especially regarding skin tone, appearance, or clothing. Psychologically, students shared feelings of identity crisis, emotional outbursts, and increasing sensitivity — particularly in relation to peer comparison, social media influence, and shifting family dynamics. A powerful discussion emerged around how adolescents often find themselves in conflict with parents or elders, and how this may lead to overthinking, low concentration, attention issues, and even the formation of emotional or behavioural complexes.
The session also fearlessly touched upon sensitive yet crucial topics like self-stimulation, group identity, and the growing curiosity around sexuality and online content. A lively and eye-opening discussion on usage of excess social media has influence on youth behaviour and mindset .Dr Panikkar guided students on how to channel their thoughts, manage emotional turbulence, avoid unhealthy comparisons, and find constructive outlets for their curiosity and confusion. This was more than just a session — it was a safe space where students felt heard, seen, and empowered to take steps towards self-awareness, emotional regulation, and personal growth.
