Today , the Women Development Cell and the College Debates and Seminar Committee organised a seminar on the theme: “Open Discussion on Ending Stigma on Menstruation,” under the Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao initiative, in collaboration with Mission Shakti, District Social Welfare Office, Srinagar.
The programme was particularly significant for our students because it provided an opportunity to listen, question and share perspectives. It focussed on how to move from silence to conversation, from stigma to understanding, and from misinformation to awareness.
A total no of 13 students across different streams participated in the seminar. The first position was bagged by Tabish Ajmer , department of zoology while Aasila Shakeel, department of Computer Application and Fayez, department of Botany stood second and third respectively. Faleh Zahoor, department of Zoology and Nurain Binti Ahad, department of Computer Application were declared runner-ups.
The students deliberated on how ending menstrual stigma was not merely a women’s issue. It is a social issue, an educational issue and a matter of dignity and equality. Boys and men too have an important role to play in creating an environment where menstruation is understood naturally and discussed without shame.
