Shaheed Smarak

The "Shaheed Smarak" located at the Atarpura Chowk in Hapur and Bada Shaheed Memorial located on Delhi Road Ramlila Ground are note worthy. The memorial has been erected at Ram Ground in the memory of the martyrs and the Shaheed Mela is also organized at the same place.
Whenever we remember our freedom fighters then the names of the four immortal martyrs of Hapur, who sacrificed their lives for the freedom of the nation will also be mentioned. After the announcement of Quit India Movement on 9 August 1942, the British government arrested all the senior Congress leaders. The arrest led to the organization of strikes and demonstrations at many places in the country. On August 9, the people of Hapur were outraged by the arrest of Lala Bakhtawar Lal, Saryu Prasad, Babu Laxmi Narayan. There was a strike in the city and all educational institutions were closed. On August 10, the public decided to hoist the tricolor at the Town Hall. Prohibitory orders were imposed as soon as the police came to know about it. On the morning of August 11, the leaders Lala Parmanand, Lala Amolak Chand Ratan Lal Sharma, Babu Murari Lal Tabla etc. were sent to jail by the British Government. On this, the freedom fighters took out a procession raising the slogans of " Break the gates of the jail, leave our leaders." Kailash Chand Mahesh, Lala Shaadi Ram were leading the procession. As soon as the procession reached Atarpura Chaupala, the police lathi-charged, in which Kailash Chand Mahesh and Lala Shadi Ram were severely injured. When the procession did not stop, the police opened fire. Pandit Anganlal Sharma, Mange Lal Vaish, Ramswaroop Jatav, Girdhari Lal Thathere were martyred in the firing and a large number of people were injured. Even after being seriously injured, Lala Sevaram did not let the tricolor fall down. After independence, a martyr memorial was constructed at Atarpura Chaupala in the city and tribute was paid to the martyrs. The marks of bullets fired by the British government at that time can still be seen on this martyr's memorial. Since then every year on August 11, a lamp is lit at this memorial to pay homage to the martyrs.
