Overview of Health Psychology
Invited Talk
Health Psychology is one of the more recent fields in the subject of
psychology. It focuses on the the interaction between biological, social,
behavioural and psychological aspects of health and illness. Therefore it
can be said that health psychology focuses on the overall health of an
individual.
In the weekly activity conducted by Department of Psychology at GKV an
invited talk was organised. Professor Dr. Kaptan Singh Sengar was invited to
give a talk on “overview of health psychology”. Dr. Sengar is an Associate Professor in RINPAS, Ranchi, and has a vast experience as a professor, researcher and clinician of over 30 years.The activity was organised by Prof. Dr. Rakesh Jain, HOD, Department of
Psychology, GKV. It was attended by Ph.D scholars in person and online.
As the session began, there was a brief introduction of the guest faculty and of
the scholars present during the talk. The engaging session started by
introduction of health psychology and also a brief introduction to the concept
of psychoneuroimmunology. Sir further explained the alarming state of lifestyle
and related illnesses. Sir explained models of health psychology, objectives of
health psychology further discussed applications of health psychology.
After an hour of imbibing presentation, an open discussion was held where
applications and scope of health psychology in India was discussed and how
practitioners from all the fields are now more focused on holistic health.
A brief Question-Answer session was held there after where scholars asked
queries and gave in suggestions related to the discussion. Post this a vote of
thanks was proposed to Dr. Sengar for an enlightening session.
The successful session left us with more clarity on the theoretical framework and practical applications of health psychology and career options in the field.

Discussion on Rorschach Inkblot Test
The department of Psychology at Gurukul Kangri (Deemed to be University), Haridwar, commenced a series of discussion on Projective techniques of psychological assessment on its campus. First discussion in this series was held on Rorschach Inkblot Test. This Year marks 100th anniversary of Rorschach Inkblot Test. It is one of the most popular psychological test amongst mental health professional. A comprehensive overview of history, administration, scoring and interpretation of the test was discussed. Speaker elucidated upon both quantitative and qualitative analysis of the test. Lastly the application of the test across various settings and situations was discussed.
The session was organized under the guidance of Dr. Rakesh Jain. The topic was delivered by Ms. Radhika Sahal (Ph. D scholar). All the PhD Scholars actively participated and made it an interactive talk. Very encouraging and positive feedback was received from the attendees. Learning to administer, score and interpret Rorschach Inkblot test will be an asset for all the attendees striving to make a career in the field of Psychology.

The poster represents an individual suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder ( PTSD)...The individual is devastated, broken, shattered and is in extreme pain...The flashbacks and memories of the traumatic experience still haunts her. She wants to break free...
At the top of her head, both the hands tied in handcuffs is symbolic to the fact that how the trauma has enslaved her mind. Mentally she is in the grip of the traumatic experience.
At the top there is something ,floating and spread throughout filled with different colours...It symbolises the memories and flashbacks the individual experiences and all the colors signify the emotions involved...Black colour represents fear, red- anger and frustration, blue- sadness, green- guilt, violet- shame and grey- anxiety... It is the depiction of how the memories and flashbacks of the trauma generate so many emotions..
The quote reads: PTSD- It's not the person refusing to let go of the past, but the past refusing to let go...
