A Pre-Independence Day celebration was organized at the school to create awareness among students about the significance of India’s freedom struggle and to foster a sense of patriotism. As part of the programme, students and teachers watched a movie based on India’s struggle for independence, which helped students understand the sacrifices and contributions of the freedom fighters.
The programme also included a soulful rendition of “Vande Mataram”, followed by the National Anthem. The celebration concluded on a patriotic note, inspiring students to value the nation’s freedom, unity, and democratic ideals.

Pema Rinzing Lama Senior Secondary School, Yangsum, organized a grand felicitation ceremony to honour its distinguished alumna, Miss Prabina Rai, who successfully scaled Mount Everest on 21 May 2026 as a member of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) All Women Mount Everest Expedition 2026. Her remarkable achievement has brought immense pride to the school, the community, and the entire state of Sikkim.
The programme was attended by the School Principal In-charge, the Assistant Director, Education Department, the Vice Chairman of the School Management and Development Committee (SMDC), other esteemed SMDC members, school staff, and students. The gathering warmly welcomed Miss Prabina Rai with traditional greetings, khadas, and a bouquet as a mark of respect and admiration.
Addressing the gathering, the Principal In-charge congratulated Miss Prabina Rai on her extraordinary accomplishment and praised her dedication, perseverance, and courage. The Assistant Director highlighted the importance of determination, discipline, and hard work, stating that Miss Rai's success serves as a shining example for the younger generation. The Vice Chairman of the SMDC and other members also extended their heartfelt congratulations and expressed pride in having such an inspiring alumna from the school.
During the interaction, Miss Prabina Rai shared her inspiring journey from being a student of Pema Rinzing Lama Senior Secondary School to becoming a Mount Everest summiteer. 🌟 Bhanu jayanti samaroh samiti Soreng Zilla(Soreng Chekhung) organised Painting competition where Rejoice Limboo secured 4th Position with an impressive artistic presentation.
🌟 District level painting Competition held at Bermiok, under the theme Mahatma Gandhi and viksit Bharat organised by RDD collaboration with education department Gyalshing.

Report on the 7th Day of Bharatiya Bhasha Summer Camp (Closing Day)
The 7th and final day of the Bharatiya Bhasha Summer Camp was successfully conducted at Pema Rinzing Lama Senior Secondary School, Yangsum with great enthusiasm and active participation from students and teachers.
The activities of the day focused on Traditional Games and Tongue Twisters, promoting language learning through fun and interactive experiences. Students enthusiastically participated in various traditional games, which helped them appreciate the rich cultural heritage of different communities. They also enjoyed practicing tongue twisters in different languages, improving their pronunciation, fluency, confidence, and communication skills.
The camp concluded with a brief closing session where students shared their experiences and reflected on the valuable knowledge they had gained throughout the seven-day programme. The summer camp successfully encouraged respect for India's linguistic diversity, cultural heritage, and the importance of preserving regional languages and traditions.
The school expressed sincere gratitude to Resource Person Ms. Lhamit Lepcha for her dedicated guidance and engaging sessions throughout the camp. Special thanks were also extended to Technical Assistant Sir Prayash Rai for his continuous support and to School In-charge Mr. M. L. Theme: History and Geography of Sikkim with Special Reference to Lepcha Language and Rai Sign Language
The sixth day of the Bharatiya Bhasha Summer Camp was conducted successfully at Pema Rinzing Lama Senior Secondary School, Yangsum. The day's theme focused on the History and Geography of Sikkim, highlighting the rich linguistic and cultural heritage associated with the Lepcha language and Rai Sign Language.
The session was conducted by the resource persons Ms. Lhamit Lepcha and Ms. Sarmila Rai, who shared valuable insights into the historical background of Sikkim, its indigenous communities, important geographical features, rivers, mountains, and cultural landmarks. Students learned about the significance of the Lepcha community as one of the indigenous inhabitants of Sikkim and their contribution to preserving the state's cultural identity.
Ms. Lhamit Lepcha introduced students to historical narratives, traditional place names, and the connection between the Lepcha language and the natural environment of Sikkim. Ms. Sarmila Rai explained the importance of Rai Sign Language and demonstrated basic signs used for communication, promoting awareness of inclusivity and linguistic diversity.
The interactive sessions encouraged students to participate actively through discussions, questions, and practical demonstrations. The programme helped students develop a deeper understanding of Sikkim's history, geography, and multilingual heritage.

The fifth day of the Bharatiya Bhasha Summer Camp was conducted successfully at Pema Rinzing Lama Senior Secondary School, Yangsum. The theme for the day was "Local Heroes and Movie Showcase."
The programme aimed to familiarize students with inspiring local personalities who have contributed significantly to society and to promote cultural awareness through educational movie screenings. Students actively participated in discussions about local heroes and their achievements, drawing valuable lessons from their lives.
A movie showcase session was also organized, providing students with an engaging learning experience while highlighting cultural values and social messages. The activities encouraged students to appreciate local history, heritage, and the importance of preserving indigenous languages and traditions.
The programme was conducted under the guidance of School In-charge Mr. M. L. Gurung. The session was facilitated by Resource Person Ms. Lhamit Lepcha, whose efforts made the activities informative and interactive for all participants.
