On 5th May2026, the Red Ribbon Club of Pema Rinzing Lama Senior Secondary School, Yangsum, successfully organized an awareness session focusing on Substance Abuse, HIV/AIDS, and Mental Health. The programme was coordinated by Mr. Suman Bhattarai, Red Ribbon Nodal Teacher.
The session was enriched by the presence of the resource person, Mr. Ongtchok Sherpa, who shared valuable insights on the significance of informed choices and healthy lifestyles. Peer educators actively contributed through well-prepared presentations: Substance Abuse by Anisha Limboo, HIV/AIDS by Abinash Limboo, and Mental Health by Sradha Sharma. Their presentations were informative and engaging, helping to create awareness among the students.
The programme was attended by the Principal, Mrs. Iva Rai, along with other teachers and students. The session served as an important platform to educate and sensitize young minds about critical health issues, encouraging responsible behavior and promoting overall well-being.

A Parents-Teachers,SMC meeting was successfully conducted at Pema Rinzing Lama Senior Secondary School, Yangsum on 2nd May. The meeting witnessed the active participation of all stakeholders, including the President of SMC, Mr. Dawa Lepcha, School Principal Mrs. Iva Rai, Assistant Director from the Education Department Mr. Kingzang Bhutia, Panchayat representatives, SMC members, school staff, and parents.
The program began with a welcome address by the school authority, followed by discussions on students’ academic progress, school development plans, and the importance of collaborative efforts between parents and teachers. The Principal highlighted the school’s achievements and future goals, while the Assistant Director emphasized quality education and community involvement.
Mr. Dawa Lepcha, President of SMC, appreciated the efforts of the school and encouraged continued cooperation among all stakeholders. Parents also actively shared their views and suggestions for the overall improvement of the institution.

Pema Rinzing Lama Senior Secondary School, Yangsum, observed World Water Day on 20th March with great enthusiasm and active participation from students and teachers. It is supposed to be celebrated on 22 nd of March, but on that day school remains closed because of the holiday. The programme aimed to create awareness about the importance of water conservation and sustainable use of water resources.
The celebration began with a brief introduction highlighting the significance of the day and the urgent need to protect our water sources. Students actively participated in various activities such as speech, quiz, and focusing on themes like water scarcity, conservation, and the importance of clean water.
A special awareness session was conducted where students were educated about simple ways to save water in their daily lives. The programme emphasized the theme “Water and Gender” and encouraged students to become responsible citizens in conserving water.
The event concluded with a pledge taken by all participants to use water wisely and to spread awareness in their community. The celebration was meaningful and successful in instilling a sense of responsibility among students towards water conservation.

The initiative aimed to spread strong messages on HIV/AIDS awareness, prevention, Drug free Society, and stigma-free society.

Pema Rinzing Lama Senior Secondary School, Yangsum, observed the 150th anniversary of Vande Mataram Monthly Activities with great enthusiasm and patriotic spirit in the school campus. The programme aimed to create awareness among students about the historical significance of Vande Mataram and to promote love and respect for the nation.
On this occasion, various activities such as painting, singing, and speech competitions were organized for the students. P.R. Lama Senior Secondary School, Yangsum, warmly welcomed new students with a Freshers' Day celebration. The event, attended by SMC Chairman Shri Sonam Ongdup Bhutia and Other SMC members, Principal, teaching, and non-teaching staff and students, aimed to make newcomers feel valued. Students were greeted with garlands and sashes, and invited to introduce themselves. Tokens of love were distributed to new comer students to encourage academic excellence and instil pride in being part of a government school. The initiative sought to boost student enrolment and foster a sense of belonging among new students.
In the outset, the newly formed members of the Students' Council took an oath of office in the presence of SMC members, committing to uphold school values and serve their peers with dedication and integrity.
At the end of the programme, a short meeting was also held focusing on the recently sanctioned Mid-Day Meal Kitchen construction project. The gathering discussed implementation plans and timelines, ensuring the new facility meets required standards and benefits students. 👏.

Students enthusiastically participated by reading different books and sharing their thoughts and ideas.
