From T+5 to T+1 and moving ahead to T+0 settlements

🧭 SEBI has announced that settlement cycle for all scrip will move to T+1 from October 1, 2023.

🧭Nearly two decade ago, before automation of depositories, the settlement of trade was done on weekly basis.

🧭 It was reduced to T+3 and then to T+2 in 2003.

🧭 October onwards, the T+1 settlement will apply for all scrips, not just the most popular or highly traded ones.

🧭 The Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) Chairperson Madhabi Puri Buch has said that the day is not far when stock market transactions will be settled instantaneously, in T+0 mode. She said the regulator is working with stakeholders to improve the timelines for settlement of transactions and achieve this goal.

As reported by Bloomberg, West Texas Intermediate oil hit $95 a barrel for the first time since August 2022 after stockpiles saw a largest drop to critical levels. The reason behind the drastic fall of stockpile is due to severe supply cut from Saudi Arabia and Russia.

IMPACT ON ECONOMY
Since India meets most of its oil demand through import, high crude oil price means we need to purchase at a higher rate by paying dollars which will depreciate the value of rupees because of higher demand for USD ($).

IMPACT ON COMMON PEOPLE'
With rising oil prices commodities prices are set to rise due to increase in raw material cost, transportation cost, import cost amongst others.

Aviation, Paint amongst others.
