A Night to Remember: Don Bosco Institute Marks its Silver Jubilee

On the evening of November 22, 2025, the Don Bosco Institute (DBI), Guwahati, was bathed in a spirit of joy and nostalgia as it celebrated a significant milestone: "Roots & Wings: 25 Years of Grace (2000-2025)." The Silver Jubilee event was a magnificent tribute to a quarter-century of nurturing young minds, building dreams, and shaping lives.

The campus was buzzing with excitement as past and present members of the DBI family—students, teachers, staff, alumni, and esteemed dignitaries—gathered to honour this remarkable journey.

The evening unfolded as a beautiful blend of solemnity, culture, and celebration. The program commenced with a divine Jyoti, an invocation by the talented Ms. Tarali Sarma, setting a serene and spiritual tone for the evening. This was followed by the traditional lighting of the lamp, symbolising the dispelling of darkness and the illumination of knowledge.

Fr. Cletus SDB, Executive Director of DBI, extended warm felicitations, after which Dr. Amariyoti Choudhury, Chairman of the Silver Jubilee Organising Committee, delivered a heartfelt welcome address. The core of the reflection came from Fr. Cletus himself, who took the audience on a poignant journey through the institute's 25-year history in his address, "DBI Roots & Wings - 25 Years."

The cultural segment was a highlight, with students and teachers presenting "Immortal Echoes," a captivating dance drama that left the audience mesmerised. The formal proceedings were graced by Shri Devajit Saikia, Advocate General of Assam, who delivered a thoughtful address.

A pivotal moment of the evening was the inauguration of AIGNITE and a special book on AI launch by Devajit Saikia. The gathering was then blessed with a Jubilee Message from the visionary Fr. VM Thomas SDB, Founder Director of DBI, whose words resonated with passion and fond memories. The DBI Youth uplifted everyone's spirits with a soul-stirring Jubilee Choir performance.

The Hon’ble Justice Ujjal Bhuyan of the Supreme Court of India delivered an inspiring Jubilee Address, emphasising the role of education in nation-building. This was followed by a moment of pride—the launch of “Building Dreams & Shaping Lives - an Autobiography of Fr. V.M. Thomas SDB,” introduced by Dr Choudhury and released by Hon’ble Justice Bhuyan. Fr. John SDB, Associate Director, then proposed a sincere vote of thanks.

As the formal program concluded, the celebration continued with the inauguration of the Zubeen Hall by Hon’ble Justice Bhuyan. The audience was then treated to "A Musical Tribute to Zubeen Garg & Bhupen Hazarika" by the renowned Ms Sunita Bhuyan, a performance that filled the air with nostalgia and pride. The grand evening culminated in a fellowship Dinner, accompanied by the vibrant sounds of "Asomiya at heart," a band by Devasish Sharma, IAS.

This Silver Jubilee was not just a look back at past achievements but also a reaffirmation of DBI's commitment to the future. It was a powerful reminder of the strong roots that ground the institute and the wings it provides for the youth to soar.

The campus came alive with enthusiasm and youthful spirit as talented participants from various schools across Guwahati showcased their creativity, intellect, and passion.

It was truly a celebration of talent, teamwork, and togetherness — reflecting the spirit of Don Bosco Institute’s 25-year journey of nurturing dreams and shaping lives.

The Don Bosco Institute family expresses our deepest sorrow at the passing of the legendary singer Zubeen Garg. His voice, his music, and his contribution to Assamese culture and beyond will remain eternal.

Today, we join together in paying homage to this great soul, whose songs touched millions of hearts and brought pride to Assam. His absence leaves a void that can never be filled, but his melodies will continue to inspire generations.

May his departed soul rest in eternal peace. We stand with his family, friends, and countless admirers in this moment of grief.
