IIT Guwahati MTech & MDes Admission 2018

Applications are invited for admission to the Master of Technology (MTech) and Master of Design (MDes) Programs starting in July 2018
The departments and areas in which these programs will be offered are:

Dept. of Mechanical Eng.: (i) Fluids and Thermal Engineering, (ii) Machine Design, (iii) Computer Assisted Manufacturing, (iv) Computational Mechanics, and (v) Aerodynamics and Propulsion.
Dept. of Civil Eng.: ((i) Structural Engineering, (ii) Geotechnical Engineering, (iii) Water Resources Engineering and Management, (iv) Environmental Engineering, (v) Transportation Systems Engineering, (vi) Infrastructure Engineering and Management, and (vii) Earth System Science and Engineering
Dept. of Chemical Eng.: (i) Petroleum Science and Technology, and (ii) Material Science and Technology
Dept. of Biosciences & Bioengineering: Biotechnology
Dept. of Design (MDes Program): Design (With focus on Product Design and Development; Ergonomics; Usability Engineering including Human Computer Interaction (HCI); Communication Design)
Categories of MTech/MDes Students
The Institute admits MTech/MDes students under the following categories:
Regular (Full -Time)
These are students who work full-time for their MTech/MDes degrees and receive assistantships from the Institute or fellowship from any other recognised funding agency.
Sponsored (Full-Time)
A candidate in this category is sponsored by a recognised R&D organisation, academic institution, Govt. Organisation or industry for doing MTech/MDes in the Institute on a full-time basis
Part-Time
This category refers to candidates who are professionally employed personnel (including the staff of IIT Guwahati), who can attend classes at the Institute while employed
Project Staff
This category refers to candidates who are presently working on sponsored projects in the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati.The remaining duration of the project at the time of admission should be at least one year

Closing of Online Application Process by 5.00 pm of 16th April 2018
Eligibility Criteria
For Admission into MTech Program
Minimum CPI of either 6.0 in a 10 point scale or 60% of marks in the qualifying degree, fulfilling specific requirements for different disciplines, as indicated below:
Note:
All regular category candidates must possess a valid score of Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) in a required GATE test paper mentioned below
Minimum experience required for Sponsored (Full-time)/Part-Time categories of candidates, have also been indicated below
Computer Science & Engineering:Bachelorâs degree in Engineering/Technology or equivalent in an appropriate area or MSc (Computer Science/Information Technology) or Graduates (AMIETE) from Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (IETE) in Computer Science & Engineering or MCA from a recognized Institution and a valid GATE score in CS
Electronics & Electrical Engineering:Bachelorâs degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or Equivalent or MSc(Electronics) or Graduates (AMIETE) from Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (IETE) in Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering, and a valid GATE score in EC/EE
For Power and Controlâ specialization, a valid GATE score in`EEâ or `INâ is a must.
Mechanical Engineering:Bachelorâs degree in Engineering/Technology in an appropriate area and a valid GATE score in:
MEfor the specializations of (i) Fluids and Thermal Engineering, and (ii) Machine Design; and(b)ME or PI for the specialization of âComputer Assisted Manufacturingâ only; and(c)`MEâ or Aerospace Eng.â for the specialization of âComputational Mechanicsâ and âAerodynamics and Propulsionâ only
Civil Engineering:For all specializations (other than Earth System Science and Engineering),Bachelorâs degree in Engineering / Technology in an appropriate area and a valid GATE score in:
CEfor the specializations of (i) Structural Engineering,(ii) Geotechnical Engineering, (iii) Environmental Engineering, (iv) Transportation Systems Engineering;(b)CEorA for the specialization of âInfrastructure Engineering and Managementâ;(c)CEorAGfor the specialization of âWater Resources Engineering and Managementâ only
Chemical Engineering: Bachelorâs degree in Engineering / Technology in an appropriate area (having Mass Transfer, Heat Transfer, Fluid Mechanics, Thermodynamics, Reaction Engineering, and Process Control, as subjects in undergraduate programme) and a valid GATE score in Chemical Engineering
Biotechnology: Masterâs degree in Science or 4-year Bachelorâs degree in Engineering, with biology or related subjects as one of the papers at the 10+2 level or later, along with a valid GATE score in related disciplines
For Admission into MDes Program
Minimum CPI of either 5.5 in a 10 point scale or 55% of marks in the qualifying degree/diploma as indicated below:
Note:
All regular category candidates must possess a valid score of all India Common Entrance Exam for Design (CEED). For eligibility for financial assistance for regular category candidates, please see the section âFinancial Supportâ below
Minimum experience required for Sponsored (Full-time), and Part-Time categories of candidates, have been indicated below.
4-year Bachelor'sâ degree or equivalent in Design, Engineering, Architecture, Interior Design or a Design related field or 4-year Professional Diploma in Design of NID or Professional Diploma of CEPT (5-year program)
Further, they must fulfill the minimum requirements of marks/CPI, and other conditions like valid GATE score/CEED score (as may be applicable) etc., as mentioned under eligibility criteria for respective programs
Failure to fulfill any of these requirements, shall automatically result in cancellation of admission
Relaxation for SC/ST/PwD Candidates
Eligibility criteria will be relaxed by 5% marks or 0.5 CPI for SC/ST/PwD applicants
Selection Process
The Institute reserves the right to call a limited number of candidates for written test/interview/counseling, if required, based on performance in GATE/CEED, grades/marks in the qualifying examination, etc.
Reservation of Seats
Reservation of Seats for SC, ST, OBC(Non-creamy layer) and PwD categories
OBC(Non-creamy layer) candidates will have to enclose certificate and self-declaration statement as per format indicated below
The OBC(NCL) Certificate, issued by competent authority, on or after 01st April 2017, shall only be acceptable
Financial Support
(For regular students, who are Indian nationals)
Assistantships are provided to regular students (Indian nationals) at the rate of Rs.12400/- per month, with valid and qualifying GATE score above the prescribed cut off level for MTech programme; and valid CEED score for MDes program
GATE/CEED score requirement is exempted for students with Bachelorâs degree from an Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) with minimum CPI of 8.0.

First Step
Please get a print-out of the `Guideline for Filling-up Online MTech/MDes Application Formâ, by visiting the concerned website given below.
Second Step
For filling-up Online Application Form, first of all, please keep ready with you the following documents (including scanned soft copies of some of the documents, as specified below, to be available in your computer or CD or Pen Drive for direct uploading)
Otherwise, you may have difficulty in completing online submission of your application form
A scanned soft copy of your recent coloured photograph of size more than 15 KB but less than 100 KB (4.5 cm. x 3.5 cm.) with file type jpeg or jpg or gif only, for direct uploading in to the Online Application Form
Please note that uploading of your coloured photograph is mandatory
A copy of your Date of Birth(DoB) Certificate (this will be required, if DoB is not mentioned in your Class X/XII Pass Certificate/Mark Sheet)
If applicable, a SCANNED SOFT COPY of (Possibly in 200 dpi resolution) your GATE/CEED Score Card, size having of more than 80 KB but less than 400 KB
