KKHSOU on DD Assam: “Lakshya @ Career Compass”

DD Assam has launched a new programme, “Lakshya @ Career Compass”, aimed at providing a meaningful platform for career guidance, counselling and informed career choices for the new generation of learners. Today, Krishna Kanta Handiqui State Open University (KKHSOU) participated in the recording of the programme for the 1st episode at Doordarshan Kendra, Guwahati, represented by Prof. Pranab Saikia, Registrar, and Dr. Ridip Dev Choudhury, Dean, Study Centre (i/c). This episode of the programme will be telecast on 12 August 2026 (Wednesday) at 7:30 PM on DD Assam.

The episode highlights how learners can build meaningful career pathways through higher education and the diverse academic and skill-development opportunities offered by KKHSOU. It also underscores the University's commitment to making higher education accessible, flexible, inclusive and career-oriented for learners across Assam.

Strengthening University–Livelihood Linkages for Rural Empowerment in Assam

A significant step towards strengthening University–Livelihood partnerships was taken today with a meeting between the Assam State Rural Livelihoods Mission (ASRLM) and Krishna Kanta Handiqui State Open University (KKHSOU) at the CM Block, Dispur, to explore collaboration for launching a three-month Certificate Programme on “Bari Unnayan” (Homestead Garden Development).

The meeting was attended by Sri Kuntal Moni Sarmah Bordoloi, IAS, State Mission Director, ASRLM, Shri Dhruba Jyoti Gogoi, State Project Manager – Livelihoods & Marketing, and other officials from ASRLM.

Representing KKHSOU were Prof. Pranab Saikia, Registrar, Dr. Ranjan Dutta Kalita, Dean, Academic, Farmer Samir Bordoloi, Professor of Practice (Agriculture), and Dr. Sarmistha Rani Baruah, Assistant Professor of Agriculture.

The discussions focused on the co-creation of a University–Livelihood partnership aimed at empowering Mahila Kisans (women farmers) through structured knowledge, skills and capacity building in homestead garden development, sustainable agriculture, nutrition and livelihood enhancement.

The proposed programme represents an important convergence of higher education, community development, agriculture and rural livelihoods, with the potential to translate academic knowledge into meaningful grassroots impact.

“Bari Unnayan” is envisioned not merely as a certificate programme, but as a pathway towards knowledge-based livelihood enhancement, self-reliance and sustainable rural development.

This collaborative initiative marks a new vista in empowering rural communities and strengthening livelihood opportunities for women across Assam.
