Foods in Assam are no longer an unforeseen natural disaster. They have become a recurring humanitarian and ecological crisis. While the pre-monsoon rains begin in April and May and the monsoon usually sets in during June, recent years have witnessed increasingly erratic rainfall, with prolonged and devastating floods extending well into July. This year has been among the worst in recent times.
The devastation goes far beyond damaged homes and displaced families. It has affected livelihoods, wildlife, forests, wetlands and the fragile ecosystem that sustains life across the Brahmaputra valley. The human suffering is immense, but so is the ecological loss.
If you are in a position to help, we request you to consider making a contribution, however small. Every contribution matters and can provide timely relief to those affected.
You may contribute through the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) Relief Fund or any other credible relief initiative of your choice. Our department, too, is doing its bit to support the relief efforts.
Let us stand with Assam, not only in words, but through meaningful action.
