Good news on : the Antarctic ozone hole continues to heal! 🌍

Findings of the newly released WMO Ozone and UV Bulletin shows that the Antarctic ozone hole in 2025 was one of the smallest in decades – for the second consecutive year.

Large-scale meteorological conditions and atmospheric transport influence year-to-year variability. But the long-term trend is towards recovery.

The ozone layer acts as the Earth's protective barrier against the sun's harmful ultraviolet (UV) rays. Long-term exposure to UV radiation can have serious negative effects on our health and our environment.

While this progress is a testament to the continued success of international action via the Montreal Protocol to protect the Earth's ozone layer, measurements over the past decades show a significant increase in the number of days with high UV radiation exposure.

Atmospheric monitoring remains essential.
