Institute of Advanced Study in Science and Technology (IASST) is a premier scientific research organization in the north-east region, conceived and nurtured by the Assam Science Society in its initial years and was inaugurated by Nobel Laureate Dorothy C. Hodgkin on 3rd November 1979. Subsequently, it was supported by the state govt. as its only autonomous R&D institute till March 2009. The institute was taken over in March, 2009 by the Ministry of Science and Technology, Govt of India as one of its autonomous R&D institute. The Institute is engaged in multi disciplinary research activities, both in fundamental and applied, across frontier areas of science and technology such as Plasma physics, Polymer Sciences, Biochemistry, Drug design & development, Nano-science, Medicinal plants, Seri biotechnology, Microbial biotechnology, Environmental Sciences, Microbial Fuel Cell etc.

Prof. Mojibur R. Khan is a Distinguished Professor in the Life Sciences Division at the Institute of Advanced Study in Science and Technology (IASST). He received his Ph.D. in 2006 from the College of Life Sciences, University College Dublin (UCD), Ireland, and his M.Sc. in Agricultural Biotechnology from Assam Agricultural University, Jorhat, in 2002. After six years of postdoctoral research at UCD, Dublin, he returned to India in 2011 as a recipient of the prestigious Ramalingaswami Fellowship from the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Government of India. His doctoral research was supported by the Department of Agriculture, Food and Fisheries (DAFF), Government of Ireland, while his postdoctoral research was supported by Enterprise Ireland and Science Foundation Ireland (SFI).
His research focuses on healthy ageing, gut microbiome, fermented foods and probiotics, with particular emphasis on translating microbiome research into applications for human health and community development. His group conducted one of the early microbiome studies involving Indian tribal communities and has isolated and characterised 132 potential probiotic strains from traditional fermented foods of Northeast India. His research has also led to industrial collaboration with Bharat Biotech International Ltd. for clinical evaluation of selected probiotic candidates. He has published more than 90 peer-reviewed international research papers, holds 18 patents, and has successfully led 9 major research projects as Principal Investigator.

संस्थान में हिंदी पखवाड़ा–2026 का समापन समारोह 17 सितंबर 2026 को माननीय निदेशक प्रो. आशीष कुमार मुखर्जी के कर-कमलों द्वारा पुरस्कार वितरण के साथ संपन्न हुआ। इस अवसर पर विभिन्न प्रतियोगिताओं—कविता पाठ, समाचार वाचन, सुलेख, अंताक्षरी, शोध सार लेखन, वाद-विवाद, प्रश्नोत्तरी तथा टिप्पणी/आलेखन—में उत्कृष्ट प्रदर्शन करने वाले प्रतिभागियों को पुरस्कार प्रदान कर उनका उत्साहवर्धन किया गया। माननीय निदेशक प्रो. आशीष कुमार मुखर्जी ने अपने भाषण में हिंदि का कार्यलयीन उपयोग और ज्यादा बढ़ाने पर जोर दिया । डॉ दिगंत गोस्वामी, कुलसचिव महोदय ने धन्यवाद ज्ञापन में प्रो. आशीष कुमार मुखर्जी के कुशल नेतृत्व में हिंदि के कार्यालय में बढ़ते उपयोग और संस्थान के हिंदी के प्रति रुचि, रचनात्मकता और राजभाषा के प्रयोग को बढ़ावा देने के साथ-साथ अधिकारियों एवं कर्मचारियों की सक्रिय सहभागिता को रेखांकित किया । @top fans Dr Jitendra Singh PMO India Himanta Biswa Sarma

The British High Commission and IASST faculty members discussed possible cooperation in biotechnology and advanced materials research. Prospects for research and innovation connections between the UK and India were enhanced by the visit".

संस्थान में हिंदी पखवाड़ा के अवसर पर हिंदी भाषा के प्रति रुचि, रचनात्मकता एवं राजभाषा के प्रयोग को प्रोत्साहित करने के उद्देश्य से विभिन्न प्रतियोगिताओं का आयोजन किया गया। इस क्रम में दिनांक 04.09.2026 को अंताक्षरी एवं शोधकर्ताओं के लिए शोधसार लेखन प्रतियोगिता; दिनांक 08.09.2026 को वाद- विवाद प्रतियोगिता; दिनांक 09.09.2026 को हिंदी प्रश्नोत्तरी तथा दिनांक 14.09.2026 हिंदी टिप्पण/ आलेखन प्रतियोगिताओं का आयोजन किया गया। इन प्रतियोगिताओं के माध्यम से प्रतिभागियों की कार्यालयीन हिंदी, अभिव्यक्ति-कौशल तथा राजभाषा में शासकीय कार्य करने की क्षमता का मूल्यांकन किया गया।
सभी प्रतियोगिताओं में प्रतिभागियों ने उत्साहपूर्वक भाग लिया। इन आयोजनों ने हिंदी के प्रति जागरूकता बढ़ाने के साथ-साथ संस्थान में हिंदी के अधिकाधिक प्रयोग के लिए सकारात्मक वातावरण तैयार किया।

The Institute of Advanced Study in Science and Technology (IASST), Guwahati, commemorated the birth anniversary of the legendary musician, lyricist, filmmaker and cultural icon Dr. Bhupen Hazarika with due respect and enthusiasm.
The programme was organized to remember the immense contribution of Dr. Bhupen Hazarika to Assamese culture, Indian music and the promotion of social harmony and human values. His timeless compositions and songs continue to inspire generations and reflect the rich cultural heritage of Assam.
On the occasion, faculty members, scientists, officers, staff and students of IASST paid tribute to Dr. Hazarika. Prof. Ashis K. Mukherjee in his speech highlighted the relevance of Dr. Hazarika's ideas and artistic legacy in contemporary society. His songs, which beautifully portrayed the lives, aspirations and struggles of common people, remain a source of inspiration for young generations.
IASST continues to recognize and celebrate the contributions of eminent personalities who have enriched the cultural and intellectual heritage of Assam and India.

हिंदी पखवाड़ा के अंतर्गत समाचार-पठन एवं सुलेख प्रतियोगिता
हिंदी पखवाड़ा के अवसर पर संस्थान में दिनांक 02.09.2026 को हिंदी भाषा के प्रति रुचि एवं जागरूकता बढ़ाने के उद्देश्य से समाचार-पठन एवं सुलेख प्रतियोगिता का आयोजन किया गया जिसमें संस्थान के कर्मचारियों एवं शोधार्थियों ने उत्साहपूर्वक भाग लिया।
समाचार-पठन प्रतियोगिता में प्रतिभागियों ने हिंदी समाचारों का स्पष्ट एवं प्रभावशाली वाचन किया, जबकि सुलेख प्रतियोगिता में सुंदर एवं सुवाच्य हिंदी लेखन का प्रदर्शन किया। दोनों प्रतियोगिताओं का उद्देश्य हिंदी के प्रति प्रेम, वाचन-कौशल एवं लेखन-कौशल को प्रोत्साहित करना था। प्रतिभागियों की सक्रिय भागीदारी से कार्यक्रम सफल एवं उत्साहपूर्ण रहा।

आईएएसएसटी, गुवाहाटी में हिंदी पखवाड़ा-2026 का शुभारंभ
