On July 23rd, 2023, a momentous occasion unfolded in Tiruppur, Tamil Nadu, as the Assam Migration Support Centre (AMSC) was inaugurated by State Mission Director, Smti Krishna Baruah (ACS), representing the Assam State Rural Livelihoods Mission (ASRLM), alongside officials from the organization. The establishment of AMSC aims to cater to the needs of candidates trained under the DDU-GKY program of Assam who are currently employed in Tamil Nadu.
Dignifying the event, Dr. P. N. Rajan, ACP of the Crime Records Bureau, Tiruppur, and representatives from the garment industry were also present.
It is essential to underscore that the AMSC is an initiative led by ASRLM and executed by Gram Tarang Employability Training Services, Assam (GTET). More than 100 candidates from Assam, who have undergone skill training in apparel trades and are now employed in Tiruppur, graced the inauguration ceremony. The event commenced with a concise presentation on AMSC, followed by a formal meeting.
During the meeting, Shri Abhinav Madan, Managing Director of GTET, lauded the vision of the State Mission Director, ASRLM, for initiating AMSC, highlighting its potential as a significant step towards the sustainability of the DDU-GKY project in Assam. ACP Dr. Rajan assured the migrant workers from Assam of continuous support from the Tamil Nadu police, emphasizing their commitment to assist in times of need.
Several candidates, hailing from the rural areas of Assam, who had received DDU-GKY training and now work in Tamil Nadu, shared inspiring success stories of economic self-reliance and their ability to support their families due to the program's impact. To add a cultural touch to the event, candidates working in the garment mills enthralled the guests with vibrant performances of Bihu dance, Bagrumba dance, and Jhumoor dance.
Representatives from garment companies KPR Mills, and S.P. Apparels, extended warm welcome to the candidates from Assam, acknowledging their disciplined work ethic and dedication.
Concluding the meeting, the State Mission Director, ASRLM, expressed her utmost satisfaction with the AMSC and motivated the candidates to strive for success, drawing parallels to the valor of Assam's freedom fighters like Kanaklata and Lachit Barphukan. She emphasized the importance of youth employment for Assam's prosperity and encouraged them to work in Tamil Nadu for a few years to achieve self-sufficiency and contribute to the growth of their families and home state.
The meeting was followed by a lunch for all the guests. The inauguration of AMSC marks a significant milestone in the quest to empower skilled migrant workers and promote the growth of the region. The commitment of all stakeholders involved promises to pave the way for brighter prospects for Assam's workforce.
