Puppetry for Change in Golaghat

From 30th August to 7th September 2026, the Suraksha Project brought puppetry to life across Golaghat district, Assam! Organised by the North East Diocesan Social Service Society (NEDSSS) in collaboration with the Edu Puppet Research Centre (EPRC)vand Nataraj Puppet Theatre, Gondhiya Nalbari, a series of 20 vibrant puppet shows were staged across 3 blocks - Dergaon, Gomariguri, and Sarupathar (Dhansiri Sub-Division)—covering 5 panchayats: Sisupani, Sarupani, Haldibari, Madhyampur, and Madhya Brahmaputra.

Under the expert guidance of Dr. Moushumi Bhattacharjee and her dedicated team, each performance was followed by interactive community sessions, creating a dynamic space for dialogue and learning. The shows revolved around powerful social themes - combating human trafficking, promoting education for the girl child, countering fake news, and discouraging liquor consumption - delivering key messages through the engaging medium of puppetry.

Over 2,000 community members attended these sessions, with overwhelmingly positive feedback from local representatives and audiences alike. The initiative proved that art can be a powerful tool for awareness, education, and social transformation.
