National Space Day 2026 @ USTM

Day 2 began with a hands-on training on solar image processing conducted by Dr. Murchana Khusroo, Convenor, NSpD-2026.

Internationally renowned astronomer Dr. Kishor Kumar Baruah, President, Pragjyotish Amateur Astronomers’ Association, Guwahati, delivered an insightful popular talk titled "A new era of space exploration for the next generation" and interacted with students on setting up astronomical observatories and handling telescopes.

The programme concluded with a valedictory session, addresses by university dignitaries and prize distribution to the competition winners.

𝐍𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐒𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐞 𝐃𝐚𝐲 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔 @ 𝐔𝐒𝐓𝐌

The Department of Physics, USTM, in collaboration with the North Eastern Space Applications Centre (NESAC) and in association with Polaris Astronomy Club, USTM, celebrated Day 1 of National Space Day 2026 with great enthusiasm.

The inaugural session was graced by Dr. S. P. Aggarwal, Director, NESAC and Dr. B. K. Handique, Chairman of the Local Organising Committee for NSpD-2026 celebrations in the Northeast and West Bengal. Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor of USTM, Prof. G. D. Sharma, also addressed the gathering.

The programme featured an insightful keynote address by Dr. S. P. Aggarwal, followed by telescope and plasma demonstrations, daytime astronomy, laboratory visits and poster & model competitions for school, undergraduate and postgraduate students.

An inspiring beginning that brought young minds closer to the fascinating world of space science and exploration!

On the occasion of International Youth Day, students from the Department of Applied Biology, USTM, organised a meaningful programme at Miss A.W. Thomas Memorial Secondary School to celebrate the spirit, creativity and voices of today’s youth.

We are delighted to share that a new Design Patent has been granted for “Modular Microclimate Controlled Nesting Structures for Avian Fauna Recovery,” developed by the Department of Zoology, USTM.

This innovative design aims to support avian fauna recovery by providing controlled microclimate conditions for nesting.

The team of innovators includes:
