Yadgar - E - Hussaini College Allahabad

Photos from Yadgar - E - Hussaini College's post 30/01/2025

Alhaj Maulana Razi Uddin Haider Marhoom started a school in (then) Allahabad (now) Prayagraj in 1942. That school is now known as Yadgar - E - Hussaini College. He passed away in 1983, leaving the school for the service of the mankind. The school is located right in the heart of Prayagraj, behind Kotwali in Chowk area.

Started just after the Wardha Conference, about 5 years before Independence, Yadgar college has seen several prime ministers, chief ministers and the likes of Pd. Nehru, Late Sh. Lal Bahadur Shastri, Indira Gandhi, Mr. Bahuguna, paying visits and supporting the institution. However, we are specially proud of the college for its humanitarian works in the past and which is continuing tradition.

Today, the Yadgar - E - Hussaini College gives us another big reason to be proud of. The values instilled by the Maulana stand tall. When the Maha Kumbh fesitival is going on in Prayagraj this year, Yadgar college is fully delivering on its values of humanitarian and national service commitments.

The Yadgar college has not only thrown open its gate and space for housing the pilgrims, managing supplies, and needs, through community contributions. But, the college is also actively supporting those whose near and dear ones are admitted in the nearby hospitals, not only due to recent mishap, but also due to sickness in the normal course.

I know now from where these secular and human values have been drawn by our generation: It was the way of thinking and life of our previous generations.

The school which was started by a Shia religious figure, had a Brahmin pricipal during their lifetime.

Today what Yadgar college is doing voluntarily is reminiscent of those days, when Pandit ji the Principal Sahab of the Yadgar-E-Hussaini college and the Founder of Yadgar -E-Hussaini college, Allahabad, Razi Uddin Haider Sahab, were both alive and kicking and the days went by under intense discussions and debates on education and future of India.

Grant for purchase of 'Ishrat Manzil' an evacuate property at Allahabad to Akbar Memorial Committee 18/08/2022

Grant for purchase of Ishrat Manzil at Prayagraj. Ishrat Manzil was the mansion built by Nawab of Allahabad, and last owned by the family of High Court Judge and poet Akbar Allahabadi at the time of Independence of India. A historical connection of Ishrat Manzil is there with the Anand Bhawan built by Motolilal Nehru. Motilal Nehru, a lawyer at Allahabad High Court, and regular guest of Judge Akbar Allahabadi at his house, Ishrat Manzil, like the design of the mansion so much that Anand Bhawan also had the same design. And even the same name translated in Hindi, Ishrat means Anand in Hindi. At the turn of Independence in 1947, Akbar Allahabadi had already passed away 2 decades before as well as Motilal Nehru. His Son Jawaharlal Nehru became the first Prime Minister of India and Ishrat Manzil was under the rental ownership of my maternal grandfather, Alhaj Moulvi Razi Uddin Hyder Sahab, founder of the educational trust, Yadgar-e-Hussaini Society and Yadgar School run by the society at Ishrat Manzil since 1942. Yadgar college was inspired by the Nai Taleem call of Gandhiji that was issued by him at 1942 Wardha Conference. However by 1952, Ishrat Manzil was declared an Evacuee Property as all the relatives of Akbar Allahabadi had immigrated to Pakistan. The custodian department issued a notice to Yadgar College to vacate Ishrat Manzil so that the property could be taken over by the municipality and converted into a government office. But my Nana challenged the order in the High Court and in finally in 1963 an out of court settlement was reached by the intervention of the Prime Minister Nehru's office. The Cabinet took a decision to allow sale of Ishrat Manzil to Yadgar College. The government set up a Akbar Allahabadi Memorial Committe and asked the College to deposit Rs 55000 to the committee towards the sale proceeds. This order of grant was issued by the cabinet ministry of Nehru in 1963 towards this effect. I found it in the archives of govt of India and sharing it.

Grant for purchase of 'Ishrat Manzil' an evacuate property at Allahabad to Akbar Memorial Committee Recognizing the ongoing need to position itself for the digital future, Indian Culture is an initiative by the Ministry of Culture. A platform that hosts data of cultural relevance from various repositories and institutions all over India.
