One of the biggest myths about storytelling is that the magic comes from the puppet, the prop, a perfect costume or the fancy setup.
The truth?
Some of my most memorable storytelling moments have happened with nothing but a story and a room full of children.
A raised eyebrow.
A whispered sentence.
A moment of silence.
A question hanging in the air.
And suddenly, an auditorium becomes a forest, a classroom becomes a kingdom, and a group of children become fellow travellers in a story.
Props are wonderful. We love them. They add colour and texture but the real magic has always been in the connection between storyteller and listener—the shared imagination that brings a story to life.
This was a reminder that when children are truly listening, and a storyteller is fully present, that's all the magic you really need.
✨ Stories don't live in our props. They live between people.

We are excited to partner with to bring the picture book exploration in an in person setting after numerous online camps and dialogues.
Thin Pages, Big Conversations, created 'especially for adults' is a space where picture books become gentle doorways into complex, often unspoken themes and give you a broader lens to look at them.
Join us for an evening of slowing down, looking closer, and seeing the unseen—through thoughtful activities, shared reflections, and conversations that stay with you long after the pages are closed.

Between lesson plans, sessions, and constant content creation… something quietly slips away — reading for joy, and reading to grow.
'Voices between Pages' - a book club especially for Storytellers and Educators was born this January with the idea to bring back meaningful readings, reflections and connections.
Every month, we journey together through:
📖 one picture book
📚 one novella-style read
And in doing so, we pause… reflect… and rediscover how stories shape not just our work, but who we are.
In the last 4 months we have read books on pedagogy, an anthology of short stories, crafting stories along with picture books that open the doors to the world around !!
If this speaks to you, perhaps it’s your sign to begin reading differently again. 💛

When the learners in the back row can’t see the magic happening, a storyteller doesn't just keep going.
You find a table, climb on, ensure that it can take your weight 😀 and carry on with Doodle doo energy at 💯!! (Bottom pic).
In a pre-primary classroom, engagement is everything. If they can’t see your expressions or your gestures, you’ve lost the heart of the tale. Sometimes, being a dynamic educator means thinking on your feet—and then standing on a table, quite literally 😀.
A storyteller has to constantly keep playing those tricks up their sleeves to ensure no child is left out of the magic.
Key Takeaways for the Classroom:
1. Visibility is Accessibility: If they can't see you, they can't hear the "soul" of the story.
2. Adaptability: Don't be afraid to break the "teacher persona" to meet the kids where they are.
3. Safety First: Always make sure that table is sturdy before your grand ascent! 💪😀
How do you handle those "hidden" rows in your sessions? Let’s swap tricks in the comments! 👇
