🙏घृतं वहति यज्ञार्थे मम पापं व्यपोहतु॥ अग्रतः सन्तु मे गावो गावो मे सन्तु पृष्ठतः। गावो मे हृदये सन्तु गवां मध्ये वसाम्यहम् ॥🙏

पौराणिक कथाओं के अनुसार, द्वापर युग में भगवान श्रीकृष्ण ने ब्रजवासियों और जानवरों को भगवान इंद्र के प्रकोप से बचाया था। भगवान श्रीकृष्ण ने अपनी छोटी उंगली पर गोवर्धन पर्वत उठाकर सबकी रक्षा की थी। तभी से इस पर्वत को पूजनीय माना गया है और हर साल इस तिथि पर गोवर्धन पूजा की जाती है और अन्नकूट का भोग तैयार किया जाता है।
