The recent incident from Bennett University is deeply concerning. Violence in the name of ragging is completely unacceptable—there is no justification for it.

At the same time, we must go beyond outrage and ask: what is the root cause? At a young age, many students still lack emotional maturity and clear moral boundaries. When aggression, foul language, or dominance is normalized in their environment, it often reflects in their behaviour.

Accountability is important—such actions must have consequences. But we also need to understand that public shaming and viral circulation can push a young individual into long-term trauma. Along with discipline, there is a strong need for counselling, guidance, and psychological support.

This is also a wake-up call for parents and society. Character, empathy, and respect are first nurtured at home. Academic success alone is not enough—raising responsible and emotionally aware human beings is equally important.

If we truly want change, we must focus not just on punishment, but on prevention—through values, awareness, and timely guidance.

Let’s raise better humans, not just successful individuals.
