The Knitwear Design students presented their Craft-Based Design Project, developed through close collaboration with artisans practising Pattu weaving, Durrie weaving, Shibori, Meghwal embroidery, and Crochet. Through immersive field engagement, traditional techniques were thoughtfully reinterpreted with contemporary design interventions, resulting in a collection that bridges heritage and modernity while honouring the artisans who sustain these living crafts.

A significant milestone in defence innovation — the Indian Army has officially secured Intellectual Property Rights for its New Coat Combat (Digital Print), marking a major step forward in modernising military gear through research-backed design.

Developed in collaboration with the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), New Delhi, under the Army Design Bureau, the coat is engineered with a three-layered technical textile system and an ergonomic structure, prioritising mobility, comfort, and operational efficiency across varied terrains and climates.

The design has been formally registered with the Controller General of Patents, Designs and Trademarks, Kolkata, under Design Application No. 449667-001, dated 27 February 2025, and featured in the Official Journal of the Patent Office on 07 October 2025.
