The Essence of Beauty in Ayurveda

Beauty is a heavy word and just can’t be lifted and supported by only one pillar named ‘appearance’. Appearance has long been instilled in one’s mind as a decisive meaning of beauty. But Ayurveda breaks one’s all enchanted beliefs about beauty and saves this word’s real meaning and sovereignty.

A consistent and successful balance between body, mind, and soul is fundamental and critical for true beauty. Ayurveda uncovers and defines beauty by three factors which are directly related to body, mind, and soul. When Ayurveda talks about external beauty which is also known as ‘Roopam’ one must not be confused by words, as here external beauty means a reflection of one’s physical health, digestion, daily routine, and eating habits, not the beauty of the skin.

The next entity which describes beauty little deeper is internal beauty, also known as ‘Gunam’ in Sanskrit. When serenity and purity come in one’s thoughts, feelings, and mind and in attitude or the way one looks at life then one achieves this level of beauty. Roopam is a reflection of Gunam. Gunam is something beyond Roopam and subtler. How one expresses one’s thoughts, feelings or emotions, consciousness, and awareness contribute a lot in one’s inner beauty.

Have you ever seen an old person with a glowing face and positivity? They prove age is just a number. The more one reminds of one’s age or sees oneself in the mirror for any suspected wrinkles or pimples, the more one ages. It has been scientifically proved that how one does sees the world or thinks spreads in one’s entire body at the cellular level. One's thoughts affect one's inner biology and vice versa. Our body is constantly transforming by repairing old cells with new ones and this process is dictated by our consciousness and thinking. Managing this process intellectually is the key to maintaining eternal beauty which is also known as Vayastyag.
