Honouring Freedom, Shaping the Future
Sucheta Memorial School celebrated the 80th Independence Day of India with immense patriotic fervour, enthusiasm and pride. The celebration was organised around the inspiring theme “ स्वतंत्रता का सम्मान, भविष्य का निर्माण " (Honouring Freedom, Shaping the Future), beautifully reflecting the nation's glorious past, the sacrifices that secured freedom, and the collective responsibility of the present generation to build a progressive, united and self-reliant India. The programme was a meaningful blend of spirituality, patriotism, cultural expression and reflection. Through a series of thoughtfully curated performances and addresses, the students paid tribute to the heroes of India's freedom struggle while presenting a vision of India's journey towards progress and development.
The programme commenced with an auspicious note of Om Chanting, creating an atmosphere of peace, positivity and spiritual harmony. It was followed by the ceremonial lighting of the lamp, symbolising the dispelling of darkness and the awakening of knowledge, wisdom and hope. The Chief Guest, Col. Paramvir Yadav, SM (Retd.), was formally introduced and accorded a warm welcome. A token of honour was presented as a mark of respect and gratitude for his gracious presence. The most solemn and significant moment of the celebration had been the hoisting of the National Flag, accompanied by a disciplined March Past and the National Anthem. As the Tricolour fluttered proudly in the sky, the entire gathering stood united in respect and reverence for the nation. The moment filled the atmosphere with a deep sense of patriotism, pride and gratitude towards the countless freedom fighters whose sacrifices paved the way for India's independence.
The solemnity of the flag ceremony was followed by an energetic and graceful Welcome Dance. The vibrant performance added colour and enthusiasm to the celebration and extended a warm cultural welcome to the Chief Guest and the gathering. The students then delivered an inspiring speech on the significance of Independence Day. The speech highlighted that freedom is not merely a historical achievement or a gift received from the past; it is also a responsibility that every citizen must uphold. The students emphasised the importance of respecting the Constitution, maintaining discipline, fulfilling one's duties, promoting unity and harmony, and contributing positively to society. The message reinforced the idea that the youth of today are the custodians of India's future. A special attraction of the programme had been the skit “Young Heroes & Heroines of India’s Freedom Struggle”, presented by the students. Through confident performances, the young participants brought alive the courage, determination and sacrifice of India's freedom fighters. The presentation reminded the audience that India's freedom was achieved through the extraordinary courage of men and women who placed the nation above their personal interests. The performance also encouraged students to understand that patriotism is expressed not only through remembrance but also through responsible actions, honesty, discipline and service to the nation.
The patriotic fervour continued with a powerful Poem Recitation dedicated to the brave soldiers guarding India's borders. The poem highlighted the courage and sacrifice of our armed forces, who serve the nation under extremely challenging circumstances. The recital expressed gratitude to the soldiers who remain vigilant so that citizens can live safely and peacefully. The poetic tribute was followed by a melodious Group Song, “Tumko Naman”, presented by the students. The soulful rendition expressed reverence for the motherland and paid tribute to the heroes whose courage and sacrifice continue to inspire generations. One of the major highlights of the celebration was the spectacular dance and theatrical presentation, “The Journey of Freedom: The Path of Progress”, presented by the students. The presentation portrayed India's journey through different phases of history, beginning with the spirit of resistance and valour represented by great personalities such as Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Rani Lakshmibai, followed by the revolutionary phase represented by Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Shivaram Rajguru and Sukhdev Thapar, and the wider struggle for India's independence. The performance then transitioned from the era of struggle and sacrifice to the India of today, depicting the nation's journey towards modernisation, development and progress. The presentation connected the sacrifices of the past with the aspirations of the present generation and highlighted India's vision of becoming a stronger, more developed and progressive nation.
The Chief Guest, Col Paramvir Yadav, SM (Retd.), addressed the gathering and appreciated the school's efforts in nurturing responsible, disciplined and patriotic citizens. In his address, he highlighted the significance of India's freedom and reminded the students that the sacrifices of the freedom fighters must never be forgotten. He encouraged the students to develop knowledge, skills, discipline, confidence and a strong sense of responsibility. He emphasised that young citizens have an important role to play in India's future and encouraged them to become confident, compassionate, disciplined and responsible individuals who can contribute meaningfully to the progress of the nation. Following the address by the Chief Guest, the Director Principal, Dr. Sarvesh Satija delivered his vote of thanks. Herein, he added inspiring and thought-provoking notes. He paid tribute to the great personalities who devoted their lives to India's freedom, unity and national development. He recalled the great contributions and inspiring qualities of Porus and his mother Anusuya, Chanakya and Chadragupta Maurya, Rani Lakshmi Bai, Bal Gangadhar Tilak, Veer Savarkar, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and Shaheed Bhagat Singh. The powerful words of Bal Gangadhar Tilak— “Swaraj is my birthright and I shall have it.” were recalled as an expression of India's unwavering determination to attain self-rule. The Director Principal highlighted the courage and patriotism of Veer Savarkar and Shaheed Bhagat Singh, the leadership and sacrifice of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, and the exceptional leadership and nation-building contribution of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.
Special emphasis was laid on Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel's leadership qualities and his historic contribution towards the unity and integrity of India. Students were encouraged to imbibe the values demonstrated by these national heroes—courage, discipline, leadership, patriotism, unity and selfless service. He further emphasised that the youth of today have a significant responsibility in shaping India's future. Students were urged to develop their skills, remain disciplined in action, think positively, work collectively and contribute to the progress of the nation. The message of unity, collective effort and harmony was beautifully reinforced through the profound Sanskrit shloka:
संगच्छध्वं संवदध्वं सं वो मनांसि जानताम्।
देवा भागं यथा पूर्वे सञ्जानाना उपासते॥
May we move together, may we speak together, and may our thoughts be united. May we work together in harmony and mutual understanding, just as our ancestors lived and worked together in unity.
The shloka conveyed a powerful message of collective thinking, cooperation, mutual understanding and national unity. It reminded the students that the progress of a nation depends upon people working together with a common purpose.The Director Principal also invoked the timeless sentiment of devotion towards one's motherland through the celebrated Sanskrit verse:
अपि स्वर्णमयी लङ्का न मे लक्ष्मण रोचते।
जननी जन्मभूमिश्च स्वर्गादपि गरीयसी॥
O Lakshmana, even though Lanka is made of gold, it does not appeal to me. Mother and motherland are greater than heaven itself.
The verse beautifully expressed the profound truth that one's mother and motherland hold a place higher than material wealth and even heaven. Students were urged to respect their roots, value their nation and understand that true patriotism is reflected through character, knowledge, discipline, responsibility and dedicated action. The Director Principal Sir extended the Vote of Thanks and expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Chief Guest, dignitaries, management, teachers, students, support staff, parents and all those whose dedicated efforts contributed to the successful celebration. The efforts of the students and teachers in conceptualising, rehearsing and presenting the various performances were appreciated. The celebration reflected the collective commitment of the entire school community towards nurturing responsible and patriotic citizens.
The gathering thereafter took the School Pledge, reaffirming its commitment to the values of unity, responsibility, discipline, integrity and national pride. The programme concluded with the National Song, leaving the entire gathering with a renewed sense of patriotism, gratitude and commitment towards the nation. The celebration reminded everyone that the freedom secured through the sacrifices of our heroes carries with it a profound responsibility—to build an India that is united, disciplined, knowledgeable, skilled, compassionate, progressive and strong. The programmes successfully inspired the students to honour the sacrifices of the past, fulfil their responsibilities in the present and work with dedication towards a brighter and more prosperous future for the nation.
