The number 108
The diameter of the sun is about 108 times that of the diameter of Earth. The average distance between the Earth and the Sun is 108 times the sun's diameter. The average distance from the Earth to the Moon is 238,800 miles, about 108 times the moons diameter.
The number 108 is used in Islam to refer to God. 108 small Buddhas are carved on a single walnut as good luck charm. In Buddhist tradition a bell is rung 108 times to celebrate a new year. The Chinese Buddhists and Taoists use a 108 bead mala, called su-chu, which has three dividing beads.
Hinduism. In Hindu tradition, the Mukhya Shivaganas (attendants of Shiva) are 108 in number and hence Shaiva religions, particularly Lingayats, use malas of 108 beads for prayer and meditation. Similarly, in Gaudiya Vaishnavism, Lord Krishna in Brindavan had 108 followers known as gopis.

Guru Purnima is celebrated on a full moon day or Purnima, falling in Ashadha month, as per the Hindu lunar calendar.
This year, people are celebrating the auspicious day on Wednesday, July 13. The festival is also known as ‘Vyasa Purnima’ as it marks the birth anniversary of ‘Veda Vyasa’, who is regarded as the author of Mahabharata.
This is the day to thank our teachers and mentors who have inspired us to become better versions of ourselves, for their guidance and teachings.
