The 11th-century thinker and his "Kitab al-Manazir" (Book of Optics) shaped our understanding of vision, optics and light.
•Haytham challenged Plato's and Euclid's theories that argued we see objects by shining light out of our eyes onto them.
•He argues instead that vision is rays coming from external luminous sources that enter the eye.
•His "camera obscura", which mathematically proved that light travels in a straight line, forms the basis of photography.
