On behalf of the Gulmarg Avalanche Center (GAC) and our forecast audience, I warmly congratulate Andy on receiving the prestigious fellowship award. Andy and I worked closely together to design the GAC website so it could effectively communicate avalanche risk to our unique mountain community in Gulmarg.

The Jammu and Kashmir Tourism Department has affirmed its appreciation for the GAC’s irreplaceable role in safeguarding public safety. This endorsement reflects recognition of our organization’s essential contribution while preserving our full financial and operational independence.

Our team remains committed to transparency, science-based forecasting, and collaboration in service of all who share the mountains of Gulmarg.

Sincerely,
Brian Newman
Snow Safety Officer

🌏 Honorary Fellowship Award

A3 was pleased to honor Andy Anderson with our Honorary Fellowship Award at the 2025 California Snow & Avalanche Workshop in October. A3’s Honorary Fellowship Award recognizes individuals for significant contributions to avalanche-related programs in countries other than the United States.

Andy was nominated by Brian Newman, Robert McGillicuddy, Colin Mitchel, Brandon Schwartz, Steve Reynaud, and Simon Trautman for his work with the Gulmarg Avalanche Center in India.

The Gulmarg Avalanche Center is India’s first and only daily avalanche forecast program. The center has operated as a non-profit since 2007, delivering public forecasts and educational outreach in one of the most complex avalanche environments in the Himalaya. Their audience is uniquely diverse—local Indian skiers, international professionals, and first-time visitors—requiring accessible, reliable, and nuanced communication tools. In 2018, Andy engineered and launched www.gulmargac.in, a site specifically designed to meet Gulmarg’s forecasting and educational needs. Since then, he has remained a dedicated technical steward of the platform, offering ongoing support and insight despite the logistical and communication challenges inherent to working in India.

Congratulations, Andy, and thank you for your lasting impact on the global avalanche community!

American Av Pro members! Looking for signatures – AAA award Nomination

Hey avalanche friends,
I’m putting together a nomination for the AAA Honorary Fellowship Award, which recognizes significant international contributions to avalanche programs. This year, I’m nominating Andy Anderson (Sierra Av center) for his critical technical work in building and maintaining GulmargAC.in, the public forecasting platform that’s been a cornerstone of avalanche safety in Gulmarg, India.

To complete the nomination, I need five AAA Professional Members to lend their names (plus mailing addresses and phone numbers—yes, still required) as supporters. If you’re willing, just shoot me a quick DM with your info. It’s an easy way to help recognize meaningful work that often happens behind the scenes. Thanks in advance!
