2570 Buddha Purnima Celebrations at Gautam Buddha University
Greater Noida, 9 May 2026: The 2570 Buddha Purnima Celebrations were organized with great devotion and spiritual fervor at Gautam Buddha University (GBU), Greater Noida, by the international students of the School of Buddhist Studies and Civilization (SoBSC). The event witnessed the gracious presence of eminent dignitaries, monks, nuns, faculty members, scholars, and students from different parts of India and abroad.
The program commenced with a warm welcome address by Prof. Rajeev Varshney, Dean Academics and Dean, School of Buddhist Studies and Civilization. He highlighted the significance of Buddha Purnima and welcomed the Chief Guest, Honourable Vice Chancellor, Registrar, distinguished guests, monks, nuns, faculty members, and students participating in the celebration.
Dr. Chintala Venkata Sivasai, HOD, School of Buddhist Studies and Civilization and Director, International Affairs, GBU, delivered a special message on the relevance of Buddha’s teachings in contemporary society. He emphasized that in an age of rapid technological advancement, humanity continues to search for inner peace and wisdom. He stated that the Buddha’s teachings on compassion, mindfulness, and the Middle Path continue to provide practical guidance for leading a meaningful and balanced life.
Prof. Chandra Kumar Singh, Registrar, GBU, conveyed his heartfelt congratulations and best wishes for the successful organization of the event and appreciated the efforts of the School of Buddhist Studies and Civilization and the international students.
The presidential address was delivered by Prof. Rana Pratap Singh, Honourable Vice Chancellor of Gautam Buddha University. He highlighted the enduring relevance of Buddhist philosophy and Buddha’s teachings in modern life and explained how Buddhism has played an important role in preserving the Indian Knowledge System, culture, and ethical values for the betterment of society.
The Chief Guest, His Holiness the 17th Gyalwa Karmapa Trinley Thaye Dorje, Head of the Karmapa International Buddhist Institute (KIBI), New Delhi, delivered an inspiring keynote address. He emphasized the importance of Buddha Purnima celebrations and explained how the Buddha’s legacy continues through the Karma Kagyu lineage of Tibetan Buddhism. He elaborated on the significance of the Middle Path, Four Noble Truths, and Noble Eightfold Path as universal principles relevant for global society. His inspiring words deeply motivated the monks, nuns, followers, and students who attended the event.
The international students’ Sangha of GBU, including Ven. Monk Tri Min and other monks and nuns, performed Buddhist chanting in both Theravada and Mahayana traditions, creating a spiritually uplifting atmosphere during the celebrations.
The event was attended by Bhikkhus from KIBI, monks, nuns, faculty members of the School of Buddhist Studies and Civilization, various Deans, Heads of Departments, faculty members, researchers, scholars, and students of Gautam Buddha University. The program proceedings were gracefully conducted by Ven. Dr. Anand and Ven. Chug as Masters of Ceremony.
The Buddha Purnima celebrations concluded with prayers for universal peace, harmony, compassion, and the welfare of all beings.

Nalanda to the Himalayas: The Enduring Legacy of Buddhist Learning
Greater Noida, April 24, 2026:

The Indian Himalayan Council of Nalanda Buddhist Tradition delegation visited Gautam Buddha University on 24th April 2026, marking a significant step towards strengthening academic and cultural ties rooted in the Nalanda Buddhist heritage.

The delegation was led by Maling Gombu, General Secretary, along with Kempu Phurbo Tsering, Vice President representing Spiti Valley. The distinguished delegation held a cordial meeting with the Honourable Vice Chancellor, Rana Pratap Singh, along with Registrar Chander Kumar Singh, and Dean Academics Rajeev Varshney. The interaction emphasized collaborative initiatives in the domains of Buddhist studies, research, and preservation of Nalanda traditions.

As part of the visit, the School of Buddhist Studies and Civilization organized a special lecture on the theme:
“Nalanda to the Himalayas: The Enduring Legacy of Buddhist Learning.”
The lecture was delivered by Ven. Kempu Phurbo Tsering and Mr. Maling Gombu, who elaborated on the transmission of Nalanda’s intellectual and spiritual traditions to the Himalayan regions, particularly highlighting the role of monasteries and scholars in preserving Buddhist philosophy, logic, and ethics over centuries.

The speakers emphasized the continued relevance of Nalanda’s knowledge systems in contemporary times, especially in fostering global peace, critical inquiry, and intercultural dialogue. They also reflected on the living traditions of the Himalayas as custodians of Nalanda’s legacy.

The event was successfully organized by Chintala Venkata Sivasai, Director International Affairs and Head, School of Buddhist Studies and Civilization, who reiterated the university’s commitment to promoting Indian Knowledge Systems and strengthening international academic collaborations.
The visit concluded with a shared vision to further academic exchanges, joint research initiatives, and cultural programs that uphold the timeless legacy of the Nalanda tradition.

MoU Signed Between Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts and Gautam Buddha University to Promote Academic and Cultural Collaboration

A significant step towards strengthening academic, cultural, and research collaboration was achieved with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA), New Delhi and Gautam Buddha University (GBU), Greater Noida.
The MoU aims to foster interdisciplinary engagement and mutual cooperation in key areas such as:
Exchange of faculty and students for research and skill development
Collaborative research projects
Joint organization of conferences, workshops, exhibitions, and festivals
Development of digital resources and joint publications
Translation and transcription of manuscripts housed at GBU
The agreement reflects a shared vision of preserving and promoting India’s rich cultural and knowledge traditions while engaging with contemporary academic and technological advancements.

ICSSR Sponsored Ten-Day Research Methodology Course Inaugurated at Gautam Buddha University
Greater Noida, 9 March 2026: The Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR) sponsored Ten-Day Research Methodology Course (RMC) commenced at Gautam Buddha University (GBU), Greater Noida, on 9 March 2026. The programme is being organised by the School of Buddhist Studies and Civilization (SoBSC) with the objective of strengthening interdisciplinary research approaches in social sciences and philosophy while integrating contemporary research tools such as Artificial Intelligence.
The inaugural session was presided over by Prof. Rana Pratap Singh, Honourable Vice Chancellor of Gautam Buddha University. In his presidential address, he emphasised that social science research must be closely integrated with the empirical problems faced by society. He highlighted the growing role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in enhancing the quality of human life and stressed the importance of interdisciplinary research methodology in developing holistic and integrated solutions to societal challenges.
The Chief Guest and Keynote Speaker, Prof. Manoj Kumar Jena from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi, delivered an insightful lecture on the relevance of social science methodology in the age of Artificial Intelligence. He elaborated on the various stages of research in social sciences and underscored the need to make research more socially relevant and impactful for the betterment of individuals and society.
Prof. Chandra Kumar Singh, Registrar of Gautam Buddha University, highlighted the need for strong interdisciplinary collaboration between social sciences and other branches of science to achieve a deeper understanding of human life and contemporary societal issues.
The programme began with a welcome address by Prof. Rajeev Varshney, Dean Academics and Dean, School of Buddhist Studies and Civilization, who explained the objectives of the Research Methodology Course and the significance of AI-assisted research tools in contemporary academic research.
Dr. Chintala Venkata Sivasai, Course Director, Head of the Department of SoBSC, and Director of International Affairs at Gautam Buddha University, presented the theme and significance of the ten-day course. He explained that the Research Methodology Course aims to provide a comprehensive and interdisciplinary understanding of research methodologies in social sciences and philosophy, while equipping scholars with modern analytical and AI-supported research tools. He also delivered the Vote of Thanks.
The programme witnessed participation from resource persons from various universities, research scholars, faculty members, Deans of different schools, Heads of Departments, and the faculty and staff of the School of Buddhist Studies and Civilization.
The ten-day course will include lectures, discussions, and training sessions focusing on research design, data analysis, academic writing, interdisciplinary perspectives, and the application of AI in social science research.

The valedictory session of the ICSSR-sponsored 10 Days Research Methodology Course (RMC) was successfully आयोजित at Gautam Buddha University (GBU), marking the culmination of an intensive academic engagement aimed at enhancing research capabilities in social sciences and interdisciplinary studies.
The program report was formally presented by the Course Director, Dr. Chintala Venkata Sivasai, who highlighted the objectives, structure, and outcomes of the course. He emphasized that the program provided scholars with comprehensive exposure to research design, methodological tools, data analysis, academic writing, and the integration of emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence in research.

The keynote address was delivered by Prof. R. C. Pradhan, Former Member Secretary, Indian Council of Philosophical Research (ICPR). He provided deep insights into the role of Artificial Intelligence in research while critically examining its limitations. He also emphasized the importance of AI ethics, stressing the need for a balanced and responsible integration of technology in academic inquiry.
The session witnessed active participation from research scholars representing various universities across different states of India, reflecting the program’s national outreach and interdisciplinary relevance.

A delegation from the Indo Baltic Society for Consciousness, Lithuania (Northern & Eastern Europe) visited Gautam Buddha University (GBU), Greater Noida on 5 March 2026 as part of their academic and spiritual engagement in India.
The visiting delegation, consisting of 10 members from Lithuania and Sweden, met the Honourable Vice Chancellor of Gautam Buddha University, Prof. Rana Pratap Singh, and held a cordial interaction on opportunities for academic collaboration and cultural exchange. During the meeting, discussions were held on Ayurveda, biology, interdisciplinary research, teaching initiatives, and possibilities for future cooperation between Lithuania and Gautam Buddha University.
The delegation also expressed keen interest in the Buddhist philosophical traditions, meditation practices, and Indian knowledge systems. As part of their visit, the members explored the academic environment of the School of Buddhist Studies and Civilization and the Centre for Buddhist Studies and Meditation at the university. The interaction aimed to promote deeper understanding of Buddhist wisdom, contemplative practices, and cross-cultural academic exchange between India and Europe.

Enshrinement of Pagodas – New Model Ceremony and Inauguration of renovation of Director, International Affairs Office at Gautam Buddha University

Gautam Buddha University (GBU) successfully organized a significant and spiritually enriching event on the occasion of the “Enshrinement of Pagodas – New Model Ceremony” along with the inauguration of the Office of the Director, International Affairs. The program was graciously inaugurated by the Honourable Vice Chancellor, Prof. Rana Pratap Singh, in the distinguished presence of the Chief Guest, Dr. Teo Choo Guan, Founder and Chairperson of Waki Relic Museum, Malaysia.
The event commenced with a warm welcome address by Prof. Rajeev Varshney, Dean Academics, who highlighted the significance of Pagodas in Buddhist tradition as sacred structures symbolizing enlightenment, peace, and the preservation of relics. He emphasized their role as spiritual landmarks that inspire devotion and mindfulness.
Dr. Chintala Venkata Sivasai, Director, International Affairs, and Head, School of Buddhist Studies and Civilization (SoBSC), who also served as the Program Coordinator, elaborated on the conceptual foundation of Pagodas and the profound idea of the “Gift of Dhamma.” He explained its relevance in Buddhist thought and its roots in the Pali Canon. He further presented the New Model Pagoda Ceremony as an innovative initiative that bridges ancient tradition with contemporary academic and global engagement, fostering intercultural dialogue and spiritual awareness.
In his Presidential Address, the Honourable Vice Chancellor, Prof. Rana Pratap Singh, reflected on the development of inner consciousness, emphasizing how Pagodas can serve as instruments for cultivating mindfulness, ethical living, and spiritual awakening in modern society.
The Chief Guest, Dr. Teo Choo Guan, shared the inspiring vision of the Waki International Group, which aims to establish and donate 84,000 Pagodas across 42 countries worldwide. He expressed his happiness that Gautam Buddha University has become part of this global spiritual mission. On this occasion, he formally donated new Pagoda models to the monks and nuns of GBU, symbolizing the dissemination of Dhamma across borders.
The program witnessed the esteemed presence of Deans, Heads of Departments, faculty members, and Venerable monks and nuns, making it a truly enriching academic and spiritual gathering.
