Buddha Purnima, or Vesak, is celebrated to honor the three major milestones in the life of Gautama Buddha: his birth, enlightenment (Nirvana), and passing away (Mahaparinirvana). Falling on the full moon day of the Vaisakha month (April/May), it commemorates his wisdom, teachings on peace, compassion, and non-violence.
