After the 2011 disaster, Japan rebuilt its coastline with one of the longest seawall systems on Earth. Stretching nearly 400 kilometers, these massive walls are designed to slow waves and buy time to escape, not stop the ocean completely. Alongside concrete, Japan planted millions of trees and restored dunes. Some locals resist the walls, fearing harm to nature, beauty, and the beaches they deeply love.
