An NSS awareness programme on Disaster Management Measures for Flood and Earthquake Events was organised on 22 August 2026 at Bizgoriya Gaon LP School, Simen Chapori, near KVK Dhemaji, Assam.
The programme was conducted by 4th-year students of ICAR–IARI, Assam, who sensitised school children on essential precautions, safety measures and appropriate response strategies during flood and earthquake emergencies. Through interactive discussions and demonstrations, the students were guided on ways to minimise risks and ensure safety during disaster situations.
The programme was coordinated by Dr. Ch. Jamkhokai Mate, Sr. Scientists and Dr. Sunny Arya, Scientists, ICAR–IARI, Assam. The event received an encouraging response, with enthusiastic participation from the school children in the awareness activities.

As part of the 21st Parthenium Awareness Week, an awareness programme was organized at Gogamukh College with the participation of the Principal, faculty members and around 100 students. The programme aimed to create awareness about the identification, harmful effects, prevention and integrated management of Parthenium w**d.
The students were sensitized to the adverse impacts of Parthenium on agriculture, livestock, human health and the environment, along with the importance of timely identification and effective management of the w**d.
The programme was coordinated by Dr. L. K. Baishya, Dr. Rahul Singh, Dr. Chethan C. R. and Dr. Prabhat Pramanik of ICAR–IARI, Assam. The active participation and support of the college administration, faculty members and students contributed significantly to the successful organization of the awareness programme.

An engaging interaction was organized between ICAR–IARI Assam undergraduate students and IFFCO delegates to provide students with insights into career opportunities, the diverse scope of agriculture, and the challenges associated with field-level farming.
The IFFCO delegation comprised Dr. Sunil Kumar, State Marketing Manager, North East Division; Shri Anuj Kotoky, Manager (Agriculture Services); and Shri Dinoraj Ningthoujam, Field Officer, Tezpur. The session provided students with valuable insights into diverse career pathways in the agricultural sector, industry perspectives, and the practical realities and challenges of farming.
The interaction was presided over by Dr. A. K. Balange, Campus In-charge; Dr. S. Manivannan, UG Coordinator; and Dr. Arpan Bhowmik, PG Coordinator. The session encouraged students to look beyond the classroom, connect academic knowledge with real-world agricultural practices, and understand the evolving role of agricultural professionals in addressing the challenges of modern farming.
The interaction served as a valuable platform for career guidance, knowledge exchange and industry–academia engagement, inspiring students to explore diverse opportunities and contribute meaningfully to the future of agriculture.

ICAR–Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI), Assam organized an IARI Assam–IFFCO Interaction and Brainstorming Session for Collaborative Agricultural Development at the IARI Assam campus, Gogamukh, on 20 August 2026. The programme aimed to explore avenues for collaboration in agricultural research, training, farmer awareness, technology dissemination and career development.
The programme was held under the guidance of Dr. Ch. Srinivasa Rao, Director, IARI. The IFFCO delegation comprised Dr. Sunil Kumar, State Marketing Manager, North East Division; Shri Anuj Kotoky, Manager (Agriculture Services); Shri Dinoraj Ningthoujam, Field Officer, Tezpur; and Shri Biswajit Goyari, Authorised Dealer, Dhemaji.
The interaction focused on identifying mutually beneficial areas of collaboration in agricultural research, capacity building, farmer training and awareness programmes, technology demonstration and dissemination, as well as career opportunities for students and young agricultural professionals.
A key highlight of the programme was an enlightening presentation by IFFCO officials on nano-fertilizers and their potential role in promoting balanced and efficient fertilizer use. The presentation provided valuable insights into emerging fertilizer technologies and their potential applications in sustainable agriculture.
Heads of Divisions, scientists and technical personnel of IARI Assam actively participated in the programme and contributed to the brainstorming discussions. The interaction provided an important platform for sharing expertise and identifying practical areas where IARI Assam and IFFCO can work together for the benefit of farmers, particularly in the Northeastern region.
The programme was coordinated by Dr. Arpan Bhowmik, Dr. Rahul Singh, Dr. Chethan C. R., Dr. P. K. Mishra, Dr. Bhagirath Das and Dr. Sunny Arya, under the supervision of Dr. A. K. Balange, Head (APF) and Campus In-charge, and Dr. L. K. Baishya, Head (NRM). Dr. Rachit Saxena, Head (A) (CS), and Dr. S. Manivannan also provided valuable guidance. Mr. Chandan Maji provided assistance in organizing the programme.
The interaction marked an important step towards strengthening the research–industry–farmer linkage and advancing collaborative initiatives for sustainable and technology-driven agricultural development in Northeast India.

In the afternoon, they applied their learning by planting around 1,000 pineapple plants. Another 150 plants will be planted today to complete the activity.

A demonstration unit on organic and natural farming nutrient management practices was established under a Phyllanthus emblica–Curcuma longa based agroforestry system. The activity was carried out with the active participation of 3rd-year students as part of the courses Principles of Organic Farming and Introductory Agroforestry, under the supervision of Dr. Umakanta Dash.
Nutrient management treatments included:
Jeevamritha @ 15% and 30%
Panchagavya @ 5% and 10%
100% Vermicompost (VC)
100% Farmyard Manure (FYM)
50% VC + 50% FYM
75% FYM + 25% Green Leaf Manure (GLM)
50% FYM + 25% VC + 25% GLM
In addition to these nutrient sources, Neemastra @ 3% was applied at monthly intervals in all treatment plots, promoting natural crop protection and sustainable nutrient management practices.

A field demonstration on the use of a rice transplanter was successfully conducted at Sonapur Majhi Village, Gogamukh, Assam, on 14 August 2026, under the able leadership and guidance of Dr. Ch. Srinivasa Rao, Director, ICAR–IARI.
The programme aimed to demonstrate the benefits of mechanized rice transplanting, particularly in reducing labour requirements, drudgery and the time involved in transplanting operations. Around 32 farmers actively participated in the demonstration and interacted with the scientists on the operation, field performance and advantages of the rice transplanter.
The programme was coordinated by Dr. Chethan C. R., Dr. Rahul Singh, Dr. P. K. Mishra, Dr. L. K. Baishya and Dr. Arpan Bhowmik.
The demonstration generated considerable interest among the participating farmers and encouraged the adoption of mechanized rice transplanting for timely, efficient and sustainable rice production in the North-Eastern Region.
