Santosh Medical College observed World Breastfeeding Week 2026 with awareness programmes at Primary Health Centre Mirzapur and Urban Health Training Centre organized by the Department of Community Medicine.

Aligned with the theme “Breastfeeding for a Sustainable Start in Life: Strengthen What Works,” the sessions focused on the benefits of breastfeeding, early initiation after birth, continued breastfeeding up to two years and beyond and appropriate Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF) practices.

The programmes were conducted under the guidance of Dr Syed Hasan Nawaz Zaidi, (Professor & HOD, Community Medicine) and Dr. Deepika Agrawal (Professor & Outreach Activity Officer) with the active support of faculty members Dr. Rahul Kumar and Dr. Deepanshi Saxena (Assistant Professors).

Through interactive discussions, UNICEF videos, awareness talks and community engagement, mothers and caregivers were encouraged to adopt healthy feeding practices and seek support from ASHA and Anganwadi workers when needed.

The programme witnessed active participation from mothers and caregivers, reinforcing the importance of informed families and strong community support for healthier children and sustainable beginnings.

The award is a prestigious recognition of excellence and leadership in medical education, presented under the National Medical AI Mission, an initiative supported by NMC, NDC and ICMR.

The recognition reflects Prof. (Dr.) V. N. Santosh Deemed to be University celebrated the 80th Independence Day with great pride and patriotic spirit on 15 August 2026. The celebration brought together university leadership, faculty members, staff and students to commemorate the nation's journey of freedom, progress and unity.

The programme commenced with the hoisting of the National Flag, followed by the National Anthem. The gathering reflected on the values of freedom, unity, responsibility and service to the nation, with special emphasis on the role of education and healthcare in building a stronger and healthier India.

The Department of Public Health Dentistry, Santosh Dental College & Hospital, in collaboration with Santosh College of Nursing, Ghaziabad, observed National Oral Hygiene Day on 1 August 2026 with the theme “Oral Care in Nursing Care.”

The programme featured an engaging scientific session conducted by Dr. Mukund Sharma, Lecturer, Public Health Dentistry, under the guidance of Dr. Meena Jain, Professor & HOD, Public Health Dentistry.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Akshay Bhargava, Director Research, Dean - Faculty of Dental Sciences and Director of the Santosh Startups Forum, highlighted the importance of integrating oral health into holistic patient care and the vital role nurses play in oral health assessment, prevention and patient education. Dr. Kanishk Gupta, Professor & HOD, Periodontics, also attended the programme and encouraged the initiative.

The session covered oral hygiene, common oral diseases, oral manifestations of systemic diseases, preventive care, plaque control, infection prevention and evidence-based oral care practices in nursing settings. B.Sc. Nursing students actively participated in the interactive session and discussions.

The programme was followed by a Dental Treatment Drive, where faculty members, interns and postgraduate students conducted oral examinations, provided preventive care, dental treatment and personalised oral health counselling, with referrals for specialised care wherever required.

The initiative reinforced the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration between dental and nursing professionals and the need to integrate oral healthcare into routine patient care.
