EE 2016: No change in 60-40 weightage system
Candidates preparing to appear for JEE 2016 must focus well on their Class 12th exams also. HRD Ministry has decided that 40% weightage for board exam will remain unchanged for NIT admissions. This puts an end to the huge confusion over a change in the JEE Main 2016 exam eligibility and pattern.
“We have received the report of the committee and it will be studied in detail. However, as only a few months are left for the entrance exams we want to give ample time to students to prepare and hence have decided not to make any changes to the format right now,” said a senior HRD official.
In September 2015, the government appointed panel has recommended to discard 40% weightage given to Class 12th board exam marks for admission in NITs. The decision on the same was pending to be taken. However, HRD Minister Smriti Irani had formed another committee to analyze the matter. The ministry has received the report and its recommendations, if accepted, will be applicable only in 2017.
Giving weightage to Class XII board exam proved somewhat negative, said one of the NIT directors, who strongly support scrapping the weightage of Class 12th board exam. According to him, the main reason for considering board exam score was to ensure that students give equal importance to board preparation along with JEE. But due to this they began to depend more on coaching classes, thus nullifying the aim of bringing the coaching trend to an end.
Gauge your ward’s preparation using ‘Saransh’ launched by HRD Ministry
HRD Ministry has introduced a mobile app called Saransh that will help parents check and compare their child’s performance within the school and other schools in the state. The online system will also help them know their ward’s weak areas. Last year the same was only available to schools and principals, but this year it is open for parents too.
