A recently published study looks at the discovery of porcine enterovirus G in the United States. The virus is thought to be benign and is not known to cause disease, but it has previously only been reported in Europe and Asia. Next-generation sequencing (NGS) was used to identify the virus isolated from cells. While this enterovirus doesn’t do much harm in pigs it puts the spotlight on the global transmission of other viruses.
