EXCITEMENTS THAT YOU CANNOT SHARE
Being a Coach is a wonderful job. The feeling of pride that someone has been helped and is moving on his/her own pathway, charted by self, but with a little nudge by us. The story of the Kewat (boatman) who refused to take Lord Ram across the river rings well with a Coach's day to day job. The Boatman was just a means to get across and if Ram chose, he could have taken another boat and crossed his way. But he knew how important a boat is, even if it never figured in his long term or even short term goals. The Boatman had another ulterior motive too. He knew Lord can do anything, but if he washes the feet of the Lord, his life would be across this mortal land and to the land of bliss.

The Coach's role is just like that of a Boatman carrying (or ferrying) the passenger along. His passenger would then go his way, but he would have satisfaction that he was instrumental in the journey of the one who decided his own path, had his own destination known, yet was handicapped by the river.

But, alas! there are some discomforts of the role. Coach has to keep his clients' activities confidential. That is the professional ethic. During my own coaching practice, I have seen there were many moments of discovery and the joy of breaking through the mist of the current situation. Just by a little chat, a few questions, a few words and lo and behold! We are having radiant light all over. We, Coach and the Coachee, both are enlightened and feeling bright, get amazed. Someone got some childhood clue that was blocking him. Someone looked ahead and found his steps to success visible, and someone had felt as if the scales have fallen out of his eyes. All clients happy cheerful, and even some unfortunate ones who were forced to live with a problem too felt they could cope with the tough weather of executive life. Yet, all feeling satisfied that Coaching has worked wonders. It is like using the Boat like Lord Rama did. He went on the another bank of the river. Yet, the challenges of deep forests lied ahead of him. Same experience is had in coaching.

So, come to coaching. It is not for the sick. Not for the psychos. It is for normal and successful human beings who want to have something in their life that makes it beautiful and meaningful.
And that is the promise a Coach would always make to you!
