The faculty members and students of the department are engaged in cutting edge research at the frontiers of science. The department follows an interdisciplinary approach and offers diverse areas of research which include nano-chemistry, materials chemistry, organic synthesis, medicinal chemistry, photochemistry, catalysis etc. To further encourage the interdisciplinary research, the department has established inter-institutional links and collaborations with renowned laboratories and universities. During the programme, students will acquire new skills while working on state-of-the-art instruments in the department. The ultimate aim of the programme is to produce globally competent chemists who can critically think and analyse a problem, and develop innovative scientific solutions. Equipped with sound knowledge and lab skills, the doctoral students would be able to address some of the biggest scientific challenges facing the mankind today such as energy crisis, lighting & displays, sanitation, diagnostics & therapeutics and many more. The successful completion of the Ph.D. programme will ensure enhanced employability and the students are likely to get positions of eminence in leading research and academic institutions in India as well as abroad.

Department of Chemistry, CUSB, Gaya celebrated National Technology Day on 11th May 2023. The astounding contribution of Scientists and Engineers of India was commemorated by exciting presentations by students and faculty members followed by related discussions. The purpose of celebrating National Technology Day is to create awareness about the crucial role that science and technology plays in the daily life of common people. MSc, 2nd semester student, Mousam Pratim Sarma, anchored the programme quite well. He opened the programme by providing the background for starting the students’ science club and then he introduced the theme of the programme. MSc student, Rashid Raza, described how on this day in 1998, the sophisticated nuclear tests were meticulously planned and smartly executed at Pokhran by the team of scientists which included Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, R. Chidambaram, and many others. Besides scientific aspects, he beautifully explained how the activity at the Pokhran evaded the detection by the prying eyes of the spy satellites of USA. Another MSc student, Chinmay Krishnalal Mishra, enthralled the audience with his presentation on the science and technology in ancient India. He quite vividly presented the contribution of scientists of ancient time, namely, Karad Muni, Agastya Rishi, Bhaskaracharya, Nagarjuna, Bhardwaj and Aryabhatt. Notable among them is the Agastya battery, which is thought to be the oldest battery made 7000 years ago as mentioned in ancient scripture, Agastya Samhita. It is the oldest manifestation of electrochemical knowledge. Subsequently. Aman Sahay (MSc 2nd Semester) presented the latest advancement in MRI imaging technique for diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease. In addition, Priyanka, Meghna, Aishi and Nigam presented their artwork on Natioanal Technology DayDiscussion on various aspects of Science & Technology in the Indian context was held by Prof. Amiya Priyam, HoD, and other faculty members namely, Dr. Girish Chandra, Dr. Angad Kr. Singh, Dr. Mahender Khatravath and Dr. Mouni Roy. Prof. Priyam said that for scientific and technological advancement of the nation it is imperative that students get involved in research at an early stage. The students should observe the problems in the society and then think about providing scientific solutions. He emphasized that a judicious balance of ancient wisdom and modern thoughts should be incorporated in the teaching learning process, which will ultimately lead to developing the young minds into globally competent scientists who can solve real-life problems. Dr. Girish Chandra said that the we have a rich scientific heritage dating back to thousands of years ago. The works done by ancient sages like Agastya a Karad, Bhardwaj, Sushrut and Charak are awe-inspiring and they continue to be the guiding light and a source of inspiration for generations to come. All the faculty members highly appreciated the students’ initiative to organize the event which was the first one organized by the students’ science club. The students pledged to continue the journey of scientific expedition through the science club with more vigour and enthusiasm. The programme ended with rendition of National Anthem by all the students, faculty members and staff of the Dept. of Chemistry.
रसायन विज्ञान विभाग, सीयूएसबी, गया ने 11 मई 2023 को राष्ट्रीय प्रौद्योगिकी दिवस मनाया। भारत के वैज्ञानिकों और इंजीनियरों के अमूल्य योगदान को छात्रों और संकाय सदस्यों द्वारा रोमांचक प्रस्तुतियों के साथ संबंधित चर्चाओं के स्वरुप में मनाया गया। राष्ट्रीय प्रौद्योगिकी दिवस मनाने का उद्देश्य आम लोगों के दैनिक जीवन में विज्ञान और प्रौद्योगिकी की महत्वपूर्ण भूमिका के बारे में जागरूकता पैदा करना है। एमएससी, द्वितीय सेमेस्टर के छात्र मौसम प्रतिम शर्मा ने कार्यक्रम की अच्छी तरह से एंकरिंग की। उन्होंने छात्रों के विज्ञान क्लब को शुरू करने के लिए पृष्ठभूमि प्रदान करके कार्यक्रम की शुरुआत की और फिर उन्होंने कार्यक्रम के संदर्भ का परिचय दिया। एमएससी के छात्र राशिद रजा ने बताया कि किस तरह 1998 में इसी दिन, पोखरण में वैज्ञानिकों की टीम ने परिष्कृत परमाणु परीक्षणों की सावधानीपूर्वक योजना बनाई और नैदानिक रूप से निष्पादित किया, जिसमें डॉ. एपीजे अब्दुल कलाम, आर. चिदंबरम, और कई अन्य शामिल थे। वैज्ञानिक पहलुओं के अलावा, उन्होंने खूबसूरती से समझाया कि कैसे पोखरण में होनेवाली गतिविधियो को अमेरिका के जासूसी उपग्रहों की पारखी निगाहों से बचाया गया । एमएससी के एक अन्य छात्र चिन्मय कृष्णलाल मिश्रा ने प्राचीन भारत में विज्ञान और प्रौद्योगिकी पर अपनी प्रस्तुति से दर्शकों को मंत्रमुग्ध कर दिया। उन्होंने कराड मुनि, अगस्त्य ऋषि, भास्कराचार्य, नागार्जुन, भारद्वाज और आर्यभट्ट जैसे प्राचीन समय के वैज्ञानिकों के योगदान को काफी स्पष्ट रूप से प्रस्तुत किया। उनमें से उल्लेखनीय अगस्त्य बैटरी है, जिसे 7000 साल पहले बनाई गई सबसे पुरानी बैटरी माना जाता है, जैसा कि प्राचीन ग्रंथ अगस्त्य संहिता में वर्णित है। यह विद्युत रासायनिक ज्ञान की सबसे पुरानी अभिव्यक्ति है। बाद में, अमन सहाय (एमएससी द्वितीय सेमेस्टर) ने अल्जाइमर रोग के निदान के लिए एमआरआई इमेजिंग तकनीक में नवीनतम प्रगति प्रस्तुत की। भारतीय संदर्भ में विज्ञान और प्रौद्योगिकी के विभिन्न पहलुओं पर प्रोफेसर अमिय प्रियम, विभागाध्यक्ष और अन्य संकाय सदस्यों के साथ विस्तार से चर्चा हुई जिसमे डॉ. गिरीश चंद्र, डॉ. अंगद कु. सिंह, डॉ. महेंद्र खत्रावथ और डॉ. मौनी रॉय शामिल हैं। प्रो. प्रियम ने कहा कि देश की वैज्ञानिक और तकनीकी उन्नति के लिए यह जरूरी है कि छात्र शुरूआती दौर में ही अनुसंधान से जुड़ जाएं। छात्रों को चाहिए कि वे समाज की समस्याओं का अवलोकन करें और फिर वैज्ञानिक समाधान प्रदान करने के बारे में सोचें। उन्होंने इस बात पर जोर दिया कि शिक्षण अधिगम प्रक्रिया में प्राचीन ज्ञान और आधुनिक विचारों के विवेकपूर्ण संतुलन को शामिल किया जाना चाहिए, जो अंततः युवाओं को विश्व स्तर पर सक्षम वैज्ञानिकों के रूप में विकसित करेगा जो वास्तविक जीवन की समस्याओं को हल कर सकते हैं। डॉ. गिरीश चंद्र ने कहा कि हमारे पास हजारों साल पहले की एक समृद्ध वैज्ञानिक विरासत है। अगस्त्य कराड, भारद्वाज, सुश्रुत और चरक जैसे प्राचीन ऋषियों द्वारा किए गए कार्य विस्मयकारी हैं और वे आने वाली पीढ़ियों के लिए मार्गदर्शक प्रकाश और प्रेरणा स्रोत बने हुए हैं। सभी संकाय सदस्यों ने इस कार्यक्रम को आयोजित करने के लिए छात्रों की पहल की बहुत सराहना की, जो छात्रों के विज्ञान क्लब द्वारा आयोजित पहला आयोजन था। छात्रों ने विज्ञान क्लब के माध्यम से वैज्ञानिक अभियान की यात्रा को और अधिक जोश और उत्साह के साथ जारी रखने का संकल्प लिया। रसायन विज्ञान विभाग के सभी छात्रों, संकाय सदस्यों और कर्मचारियों द्वारा राष्ट्रगान की प्रस्तुति के साथ कार्यक्रम समाप्त हुआ।

Senior MSc students of the Dept oeganized a Freshers' Party for the newcomers of MSc 2022-24 batch. Alongside, planation drive was organized and a Cooperative Library was also inaugurated

Under the mentorship of Dr. Girish Chandra, the students also took a new initiative to start a Cooperative Library system within the department. This Co-operative Library of the Dept. was inaugurated on the same day. The library is for the students, by the students. It is fully maintained and run by the students. Faculty members of the department donated the books generously and a good collection was made to start the library. It contains several high-quality books in chemistry by renowned international publishers such as Oxford University Press, Pearson, Wiley, Elsevier etc. The books will be made available to the students absolutely free of cost for a particular time duration. Annexed to the cooperative library, an honesty shop has also been inaugurated. Through this honesty shop, the stationery items are made available to the students free of cost, however, the students can contribute voluntarily to it by putting a token amount in the donation box.
डॉ. गिरीश चंद्र के मार्गदर्शन में छात्रों ने विभाग के भीतर एक सहकारी पुस्तकालय प्रणाली शुरू करने के लिए एक नई पहल भी की। विभाग के इस सहकारी पुस्तकालय का उद्घाटन उसी दिन किया गया। पुस्तकालय छात्रों के लिए, छात्रों द्वारा है। यह छात्रों द्वारा पूरी तरह से बनाए रखा और चलाया जाता है। विभाग के फैकल्टी सदस्यों ने उदारतापूर्वक किताबें दान कीं और पुस्तकालय शुरू करने के लिए एक अच्छा संग्रह बनाया गया। इसमें ऑक्सफ़ोर्ड यूनिवर्सिटी प्रेस, पियर्सन, विली, एल्सेवियर आदि जैसे प्रसिद्ध अंतरराष्ट्रीय प्रकाशकों द्वारा रसायन विज्ञान में कई उच्च-गुणवत्ता वाली पुस्तकें शामिल हैं। किताबें छात्रों को एक विशेष समय अवधि के लिए बिल्कुल मुफ्त उपलब्ध कराई जाएंगी। सहकारी पुस्तकालय के साथ संलग्न एक ईमानदारी की दुकान का भी उद्घाटन किया गया है। इस ईमानदारी की दुकान के माध्यम से छात्रों को स्टेशनरी का सामान नि:शुल्क उपलब्ध कराया जाता है, हालांकि छात्र दान पेटी में टोकन राशि डालकर स्वेच्छा से इसमें योगदान कर सकते हैं।

Department of Chemistry, School of Physical & Chemical Sciences, CUSB, Gaya organized a plantation drive alongside the Freshers’ Welcome programme, Elementals, for MSc first semester students. Under the mentorship of Dr. Angad Kumar Singh, the senior MSc students, Aditya, Ashish, Suraj, Prasanta, Binita, Trishi, Khushboo and Anjali planned the event and executed it well with the help of all others students. With chanting of the slogan, “Hamara Parisar, Hara Parisar”, saplings of a variety of plants such as Jamun, Mango, GulMohar and others were planted. All the faculty members including Dr. Jagannath Roy, Dr. Girish Chandra, Dr. Mahender Khatravath and Dr. Mouni Roy, alongwith the students actively participated in the plantation drive. Prof. Amiya Priyam, Head, Dept. of Chemistry and Dean, School of Physical and Chemical Sciences, appreciated the initiative taken by the students of the department. He said that just like teachers nurture the young minds, the students must take a pledge to look after the plantlets for longer duration until they achieve a steady growth rate.
स्कूल ऑफ फिजिकल एंड केमिकल साइंसेज, सीयूएसबी, गया के रसायन विज्ञान विभाग ने एमएससी प्रथम सेमेस्टर के छात्रों के लिए फ्रेशर्स वेलकम प्रोग्राम, एलिमेंटल्स के साथ-साथ वृक्षारोपण अभियान का आयोजन किया। डॉ. अंगद कुमार सिंह के मार्गदर्शन में एमएससी के सीनियर छात्रों आदित्य, आशीष, सूरज, प्रशांत, बिनीता, तृषि, खुशबू और अंजलि ने कार्यक्रम की योजना बनाई और अन्य सभी छात्रों की मदद से इसे अच्छी तरह से अंजाम दिया। "हमारा परिसर, हरा परिसर" के नारे के साथ जामुन, आम, गुलमोहर आदि विभिन्न प्रकार के पौधों के पौधे रोपे गए। डॉ. जगन्नाथ रॉय, डॉ. गिरीश चंद्र, डॉ. महेंद्र खत्रावथ और डॉ. मौनी रॉय सहित सभी संकाय सदस्यों ने छात्रों के साथ वृक्षारोपण अभियान में सक्रिय रूप से भाग लिया। प्रोफेसर अमिय प्रियम, प्रमुख, रसायन विज्ञान विभाग और डीन, स्कूल ऑफ फिजिकल एंड केमिकल साइंसेज, ने विभाग के छात्रों द्वारा की गई पहल की सराहना की। उन्होंने कहा कि जैसे शिक्षक युवा दिमाग का पोषण करते हैं, वैसे ही छात्रों को पौधों की लंबी अवधि तक देखभाल करने का संकल्प लेना चाहिए, जब तक कि वे एक स्थिर विकास दर हासिल नहीं कर लेते।
