Bordoloi Committee – Sixth Schedule

The Constituent Assembly established the Sub-Committee on North-East Frontier (Assam) Tribal and Excluded Areas to examine administrative arrangements for tribal regions. It was chaired by Gopinath Bordoloi, the then Premier of Assam, and included members such as Rupnath Brahma, Rev. J.J. Nichols Roy and A.V. Thakkar.

The committee’s recommendations laid the foundation for autonomous district councils and significantly influenced the Sixth Schedule of the Indian Constitution, providing a framework for tribal self-governance in designated northeastern areas.

Assam Bamboo Cycle – Green Mobility Initiative

The Assam government has introduced the Assam Bamboo Cycle, developed in collaboration with Bamboo India, to promote sustainable mobility and showcase bamboo as “Green Gold on Two Wheels”. Featuring a bamboo frame with conventional bicycle components, the initiative highlights innovative uses of Assam’s bamboo resources.

Test rides are scheduled from October 2 at the Brahmaputra Riverfront in Guwahati, inviting cycling enthusiasts and the public to experience this eco-friendly alternative. The initiative aims to encourage greener transportation and strengthen bamboo-based innovation and industries.

Assam Incubation Project 2.0

The Assam State Rural Livelihoods Mission (ASRLM), under the Department of Panchayat and Rural Development, has launched Assam Incubation Project 2.0 to promote women-led enterprises operated by Self-Help Group (SHG) members. It aims to expand businesses, boost revenue and create sustainable livelihoods through financial and technical support.

Eligible enterprises can receive grants up to ₹1.05 lakh and grant or interest-free loans up to ₹26.33 lakh. Support includes bank loans, skill development, business formalisation, expert consultancy and enterprise planning.
