*Medicinal Plant Excursion 2026*
As a part of the annual academic schedule of the Faculty of Sowa-Rigpa, and under the esteemed guidance of the Director Sir, the Faculty of Sowa-Rigpa, Namgyal Institute of Tibetology, successfully conducted the five-day Medicinal Plant Excursion 2026 for the Batches of 2024 & 2025 from 10th –14th August 2026.
The excursion was conducted under the guidance of Dr. Karma Chujang Lepcha and provided students with valuable practical exposure to medicinal plants in their natural habitats.
The field study covered diverse locations, including Menmoi Tso / Menmecho Tso, Baba Mandir, Gnathang Valley, Kupup, Tukla Valley, and Kyongnosla Nursery.
Through systematic field identification, observation, specimen documentation, theoretical discussions, self-study, and a herb recognition test, students enhanced their practical understanding of medicinal plant identification, traditional applications, and documentation methods.
The diverse high-altitude environments offered students an opportunity to observe medicinal plants in their natural surroundings and gain a deeper appreciation of their traditional uses and significance in Sowa-Rigpa medicine.
The annual Medicinal Plant Excursion served as an enriching field-based academic experience, bridging classroom learning with direct observation of nature and strengthening students’ connection with the rich medicinal and traditional heritage of the Himalayas.
