Kiran S***a, an alumnus of NBBGC, Tadong has secured admission to the highly coveted Ph.D. programme in the Department of Astronomy and Astrophysics at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore.

After completing BSc. in Physics, he cleared the intensely competitive Joint Admission Test for Masters (IIT JAM) and pursued his MSc. at the premier Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi.

Continuing his trajectory of excellence, Kiran also cracked the highly technical Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE). This milestone, coupled with clearing a rigorous and highly selective interview process, earned him a coveted spot at IISc Bangalore, India’s top research institution where he will now pursue advanced research in Astronomy and Astrophysics.

The entire college fraternity wishes him the very best in his academic journey.

The Department of Political Science, NBBGC conducted a One-day poster presentation Seminar themed ‘New Dimensions of Security in the Globalised World’ on June 10, 2026.

Students of 4th semester presented their papers followed by Q&A on the following themes:
1. Human security and Case studies,
2. Shaping the future of Diplomacy and International Relations in a digital world,
3. Artificial intelligence and its impact on Global Security,
4. Water disputes: Future perspectives,
5. Role of Media and Social Media in shaping the perceptive of International Conflicts and Issues.

The event was graced by esteemed academicians and administrators - Prof. Namrata Tamang, Shri Mirap Dorjee Bhutia, Principal Prof. D. Purohit, senior ADM Dr. Munna Pradhan and college faculty members and students.

The Botanical Society observed World Environment Day with great enthusiasm through a cleanliness drive and a herbal medicinal plant plantation programme in the Herbal Garden of the college. Students of both UG and PG Botany actively participated in cleaning the surroundings of the Science Block and Herbal Garden, promoting environmental awareness and responsibility.

Nepali Honours students of NBBGC, Tadong, attended a screening of ‘Shape of Momo’, a critically acclaimed film directed by Triveni Rai. The programme was organized with the objective of supporting and promoting local cinematic talent and showcasing the rich cultural and geographical landscape of Sikkim.

The students thoroughly enjoyed the screening and appreciated the film’s realistic portrayal of social realities. The student group was escorted by Dr. T. B. Chhetri and Dr. Sarda Chhetri from the Dept. of Nepali, NBBGC.

The Department of Sociology in collaboration with Su***de Prevention Action Network (SPAN) Project, National Mental Health Programme, Department of Health & Family Welfare, Govt. of Sikkim organised the second monthly screening programme under phase 4 on Tuesday, 2nd June in the college library. 160 students studying Sociology Honours and Elective in the second semester were screened. Their respective teachers were also present to guide students during the process.

The screening process was conducted by our student screeners from the Department of Sociology, Political Science and English (Pic 1) under the guidance of four counsellors from the Upper Primary Health Centres (UPHCs), Gangtok and Ranipool.
